U.S. President George W. Bush said on Friday the United States would have a long-term presence in Iraq that could "easily" last a decade, but that it would be at the invitation of the Iraqi government.

In an interview with NBC News, Bush was asked about recent comments by Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain that it would be fine with him to have a U.S. military presence in Iraq for 100 years.

F.B.I. Says Guards Killed 14 Iraqis Without Cause

WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 — Federal agents investigating the Sept. 16 episode in which Blackwater security personnel shot and killed 17 Iraqi civilians have found that at least 14 of the shootings were unjustified and violated deadly-force rules in effect for security contractors in Iraq, according to civilian and military officials briefed on the case.

Bush decides nothing! Whether the US continues its occupation in Iraq is not Bush's decision, but it's the decision made by the oil cartel and/or Israel.

It should be obvious to all who have a working brain that the war in Iraq benefits not only those scumbags in the military-industrial complex (Hallibuton, Lockheed, Boeing, Blackwater), but also provides the security Israel wants - for free. The hundreds of billions of dollars have been basically the cost of the attempt to provide security for the Israelis. This is a win-win situation for the Neo-cons, who stand to benefit from both ends of the deal. Ten more years in Iraq means Iraq would become the launching pad for the invasion in Iran. The effort to eliminate nuclear weapons in Iran is simply part of the Neo-cons agenda to disarm the country they plan to invade.

Fast forward to the scenario where both Iran and Iraq are under control of the Neo-cons: Israel will become the controlling force in the region. Then, the US oil cartels would enjoy racking the wicked profits they ever dream of.

We are living in a small chapter of history. The power that is in control cares less what we say, think, or do. The Neo-cons have us by the balls (for Hillary Clinton's case, they have her by the balls she wishes she had).

It's all about power and money. The evil in the Bush administration is only a reflection of a bigger evil yet to come. It's up to us to change our own fate.

Chimpy knew this going into the war!

His daddy Bush explained in detail when he was President why he would not go into Iraq, and it was because there was no exit possible and they would be stuck there forever, that was the reason he gave for not trying to takeout Saddam back then. This is a matter of public record now, though no one in the press brings it up, the cowards.

As for the "intelligence" that got us into the war, I am reminded that when JFK was newly in office, the CIA cooked up a feeble covert plot to take down Castro. The Joint Chiefs of Staff were mad that the CIA was usurping some of their military action so they okayed the plan, knowing full well that it would end in disaster for the Cuban rebels and that many Americans would die needlessly. The generals sat silently by, hoping that the fiasco, which later became known as the Bay of Pigs, would make the CIA look so bad that they would not be given paramilitary tasks to perform anymore. JFk okayed the whole mess and many died heroically, but needlessly as the generals had known along.

I can't imagine that anything has changed substantially since then, seems like deja vu....

Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the United States Constitution (the War Powers Clause) gives Congress the exclusive power to declare war:

To declare War ... and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

Previous American presidents have sent the military in to attack or invade other countries but refused to go to Congress for permission, claiming that the president can use the military for a “police action.”

In 1973, Congress passed the War Powers Resolution, which requires the president to obtain either a declaration of war or a resolution authorizing the use of force from Congress within 60 days of initiating hostilities.

If Congress (and Hillary Clinton) had refused to support Bush in his war of aggression against Iraq, Bush could not have started this war. Or at least his efforts to do so would have created a constitutional crisis and showdown. If Congress had stood up for the people of this country, we would not be in this disastrous war.

The constitution identifies the president as the commander in chief, with authority over how the war is conducted.

As far as I know, the constitution is silent on the question of who can demand that a war be ended. I would argue that the people can demand it, and in fact can simply declare it ended, based upon the 9th amendment:

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

The Constitution specifically identifies what power is given to the federal government. The first 10 amendments were added to be even more clear that the rights of the federal government were limited to what was set out in the constitution, and if there was anything unclear at all, the presumption always should be that all other rights are retained by the people, by the individuals.

Want to end the war? Want to end the outsourcing of jobs, the degrading of American lives? Shut the whole thing down. Call a national strike and demand change.
