South Carolina's largest newspaper on Saturday endorsed John McCain in the state's Republican primary.

The State's editorial board wrote on the newspaper's Web site that its choice in the Jan. 19 GOP primary boiled down to McCain or Mike Huckabee.

It said former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee was "an exciting newcomer who shows a wonderful ability to connect with voters' concerns, and Republicans could do far worse than to choose him. But his utter lack of knowledge of foreign affairs is unsettling."

McCain is a warmonger. I know Hillary backs him 110%, but it looks like obama is there too.

No racist smears against McCain this time, because now he's the GOP Establishment's guy.

I can well imagine McCain will win the White House. All he will have to do is promise another tax cut and the voting public will follow him over the cliff! I simply do not think the average American voting is that intelligent. Most are only concerned about their share of the pie. They could care less if another 'Ruinous Republican' sinks the ship as long as they get a lousy tax cut! It's utterly sickening! I don't have a bit of faith left in the voting public after the 2004 elections!

Anyone remember the Bush quote - I saw it in the regretted NYTimes - whence he says 'I don't need a dog, I have McCain...'

I've got five worthless dollars that says Old Man McCain will pass gas and die before November. The danger is in the number that he will take with him through that emission.

Now let's see the follow up. Can this newspaper also say "I'm sorry"?

McCain will undoubtably be the republican nominee.

But he'll have to run MORE to the right of Bush to beat distinquish himself from Clinton or Obama (whichever is nominated by the Democrats).

If he does, he'll lose. Peopole don't want MORE right-wing philosophy - it's been a disaster and a fraud.

If he doesn't, he'll lose. People this year will vote for a moderate Democrat before a moderate republican.

That asshole brad warthog and the country club fascists at the State newspaper would be expected to pick Crazy John McCain. "Oh, we goofed last time when we helped spread the rumors of crazy John with the black baby" in favor of a dry drunk moron supported by all the good, corporate Villagers. Nevermind, sorry about that. As I am fond of quoting. South Carolina "...too small to be a republic, to large to be an insane asylum"--James Pettigru 1860

plase note that americans have accepted the war now and only talk about the surge.

the war was and is illegal based on lies to steal iraq's oil for corporate oil profits and
for profits for the industrial military complex.

we americans are war mongers imperialists and lack a conscious. how often do you hear about americans having compassion for what we did to the iraqis.

that country must have a dictator. three tribes there. it is called tribal mentality cannot be a democracy.

we are not even a democracy but a republic and a war mongering one at that.

Through scumbaggery or stupidity the GOP got George Bush and shoved his position down our throats for nearly eight years. I always respected McCain until he hugged Bush and carried water for a man he could not respect.

The republican's don't get four more years to try and make up for what they have wraught for nearly eight years. If a progressive gets elected I want to see them show with their actions how we should respect the office of the presidency.
