Hillary's Civil Rights Comments Cropped By NYT -- For The Third Time

I'm not letting go of this one -- sorry. The New York Times has -- for the third time, now -- printed a truncated version of Hillary's controversial quote about Martin Luther King in a piece running in Sunday's paper.

Adding to the absurdity, this time the paper did it in an article that was about whether her words had been distorted. Seriously. The piece is entitled, "Clinton Accuses Obama Camp of Distorting Her Words."

Presumably an article about this subject would contain Hillary's actual quote, to allow readers to make up their own minds about what she meant. But this is how The Times's Adam Nagourney and Patrick Healy characterize the comments:

If this was a horse race, we would only be 11 feet into the one mile race.

Don't let the media oligarchy choose the president!

NEWS FLASH ! (SPREAD THE WORD)
Hillary Was AGAINST the Civil Rights Act of 1964
While a Republican and "Goldwater Girl"

A March 12, 2007 article written by acclaimed Washington columnist Robert Novak sheds a very revealing light on the true sentiment of Hillary Clinton during the peak of the Civil Rights Movement.

In an attempt to attract black support Hillary Clinton regularly shares her 'civil rights experience' during every speech given to black audiences. Novak writes of one such speech at Selma's First Baptist Church on the 42nd anniversary of the "bloody Sunday" freedom march there, where Sen. Clinton declared: "As a young woman, I had the great privilege of hearing Dr. King speak in Chicago. The year was 1963.

The fact is, in 1963, not only was Hillary Clinton a republican, but she was also a staunch supporter of republican Senator Barry Goldwater, well known as a segregationist and one of the most vocal senators adamently against the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which is why he lost in his presidential bid to Lyndon B. Johnson. Novak writes "...how then could she be a 'Goldwater Girl' in the next year's presidential election?" He continues, "...she described herself in her memoirs as 'an active Young Republican' and 'a Goldwater girl, right down to my cowgirl outfit.'

Novak adds, "As a politically attuned honor student, she must have known that Goldwater was one of only six Republican senators who joined Southern Democratic segregationists opposing the histo ric voting rights act of 1964 inspired by King. Hillary headed the Young Republicans at Wellesley College. The incompatibility of those two positions of 40 years ago was noted to me (Novak) by Democratic old-timers who were shocked by Sen. Clinton's temerity in pursuing her presidential candidacy."

To Read Novak's original article simply Google ' Hillary, King, Goldwater '. His article is everywhere. Then SHARE THE TRUTH. We've had a liar in office long enough. NO MORE !!!!!

I feel sorry for the Clintons. This blantant race baiting by the Clintons themselves as well as their campaign, advisors, and supporters---such as the infamous media whore Bob Johnson---is beyond offensive and pathetic. I hope that the black community brings about a reckoning if she is successful in her electronic vote tampering and injection of racial division to steal the democratic nomination. I say it here and I will say it everywhere there is a black pair of ears to hear me. If she gets the nomination in such an unscrupulous and Bushian manner, blacks should vote with all the might and power of their constituency for either Huckabee or Bloomberg. If they can't hold their noses long enough to vote republican, then stay at home on election day in November and don't vote for Hillary at all. MLK and supporters eventually took a stand and stopped riding the bus when forced to sit in the back and black people should not stay on the racist, electronic vote tampering Hillary train in the general election. The Clintons are expecting that no matter what racist, divisive tactics they use against Obama, blacks will have no other choice but to vote democrat; however, there is another choice and it is to not vote for Hillary or at all in a general election. Now is the current generation's time to make a stand against this kind of racism and oppression that the Clintons are harkening us back to. Make a stand against supporting her ilk in November if she steals her way to the nomination with the most deplorable racial tactics.

The Washington Post has a quote from Senator Obama

stating that Hillary's comment, while correct, was

ill advised.

.

I still have yet to read an explanation as to why what she said was "racist" or "stupid" or "rewriting" history.

I am not a big fan of Hillary but some people here are just being idiotic.

Nommo posted:Address to Congress: We Shall OvercomeMarch 15, 1965
Lyndon Baines Johnson, POTUS
"A century has passed -- more than 100 years -- since equality was promised, and yet the negro is not equal. For negroes are not the only victims. How many white children have gone uneducated? How many white families have lived in stark poverty? How many white lives have been scarred by fear, because we wasted energy and our substance to maintain the barriers of hatred and terror? The real hero of this struggle is the American negro. His actions and protests, his courage to risk safety, and even to risk his life, have awakened the conscience of this nation. His demonstrations have been designed to call attention to injustice, designed to provoke change; designed to stir reform. He has been called upon to make good the promise of America. And who among us can say that we would have made the same progress were it not for his persistent bravery and his faith in American democracy? For at the real heart of the battle for equality is a deep-seated belief in the democratic process. Equality depends, not on the force of arms or tear gas, but depends upon the force of moral right -- not on recourse to violence, but on respect for law and order."LBJ

This comment still reveals a great deal about Hillarys vision of her self importance, yet inability to make real sacrifice or feel true conviction.

She sees herself as Johnson in relation to Martin Luther King, As the almighty politician whose only sacrifice is straining her political career in the eyes of bigots by bringing into law the civil rights legislation that only came about as the very REAL sacrifice of Martin Luther King and tens and hundreds of Thousands of REAL people.

I just heard Dr. Kings speech on viet nam recently. NOTHING that Hillary has ever uttered in the course of her entire career could hold a candle to even single sentence in Kings oratory.

When Obama speaks, he is actually inspiring. No Dr. King, But really insipiring nonetheless. Why would anyone believe that Obama should, as hillary seems to suggest, stand on the sidelines and work to inspire people, as Dr. King did, only to BEG the almighty politician she sees herself as to finally act in a way that simple conscience would dictate in the first place?

Perhaps it is time that a truely inspiring leader is allowed to rise to that position, as opposed to an inept, viosionless, uninspiring hack such as Hillary Clinton.

It might also be very telling that Hillary sees herself on par with LBJ in that Johnson, while being in a time and place (That place being engineered by the hard work, vision, and sacrifices of MLK)that made civil rights inevitable, also escalated the utterly avoidable and completely botched war in Viet Nam, resulting in tens of thousands of US and veitnamese casualties, and Hillary is ALREADY talking about permanant bases and a significant number of troops remaining in Iraq, which is also a totally avoidable, horribly botched war. She is also working hard to villify the Iranians, working hand in hand with Lieberaman to start another utterly unnecessary war with them as well.

This article is an example of exactly why Hillary should NOT be the Dems nominee -- she and Bill have a nasty propensity for saying things they later have to take back.

If the Clintons are already having to go on national speaking "tours" to explain what they've said, my god! can you imagine repeating this kind of thing over and over again until November . . . and beyond!??

And don't think that the Republican hyenas won't go away when the general election is over, if she wins. The circus will only be beginning for them. I even heard one of them bring up the need for a re-opening of the Whitewater investigation again!! More tazpayer money to be flushed down the toilet!!

Hillary supporters need to put the best interests of the country ahead of the Clinton's need for vindication, this time around. We need to move on. Not backwards.

This is a tempest in a teapot. Many Democrats run away from the truth that Lyndon Johnson was the best domestic president of the twentieth century. I opposed the Viet Nam war at the time but am not filled with the hatred of Woodstock types toward Johnson. What Hillary said is true.

Lyndon Johnson was a tragic figure in the sense of lterature. He did great harm and great good.

You know, I thought this was BS too, but I have to tell you, I watched the YOUTUBE video someone linked down the page and I can see where if I were a person of color, I might take a little offense. It was definately a John Kerry moment. If black people aren't backing her, ouch. She is not a racist, I don't think. It was just a dumb thing to say.

The State Newspaper in South Carolina ran a truncated version on Bill Clinton's fairytale story too and didn't even bother to explain that his original version was in response to the Iraq Occupation.

So much for South Carolinians getting the truth!

Oh for the love of god. HUffington Post is turning into a trash site.

Whine for poor Obama.. and complain about a non existant "race card"

If the race card is being played it's by Obama and his campaign because they have NOTHING else to run on. His resume is filled with lies, distortions and pretty much empty fluff..

the guy lied about his heritage, he lies about his voting record, he distorts his comments on teh war compared to his voting record.

The guy is an empty suit.

If the comments weren't cropped, they'd still have the same effect. Complaining that the comments aren't watered down with extra Clinton wordiness is kind of a pathetic argument.
