New updates below

Update:
Half an hour after posting this story, about two hours after gawker's time stamp, Huffington Post was alerted that the video content in the story was no longer there or playing. However, there are still excerpts of what Tom Cruise said in what was a 9+ minute video touting the wonders of Scientology. One quote Huffington Post remembers that gakwer does not mention is Tom Cruise saying something roughly equivalent to, "I have no time for spectators. Either get on the field or get out of the stadium." *(actual quote below)

Mark Ebner, the investigative reporter, just emailed us links to some Scientology promotional videos. Morton's central claim is that Cruise, star of movies from Risky Business to Mission Impossible, is the effective number two of the Church of Scientology, the cultish religion founded by L. Ron Hubbard, and subscribed to by other eccentric Hollywood actors such as John Travolta. The videos bear out, at the very least, that Cruise is central to the organization's marketing efforts. In this amazing clip, to a background track of theme from Mission Impossible, Cruise explains how Scientologists are "the authorities on the mind", the only people who can bring peace and unite cultures.

Update II:
Us Weekly has more of a transcript. A few highlights:

"Look, I wish the world was a different place. I'd like to go on vacation and go and romp and play and just do that, you know what I mean. That's what I want it to be. There's times I'd like to do that, but I can't because I know I have to do something about it.

"I have to do it because I can't live with myself if I don't, and that really is it.

"I have to tell you something - it is rough and tumble, and it's wild and wooly, and it's a blast, it's a blast, it really is fun because, dammit, there is nothing better than the going out there and fighting the fight and suddenly you see things are better.

"I need more help, get those spectators either in the playing field or out of the arena. Really, that's how I feel about it.**

Tom, You're incoherent...only you don't know it. Tell us about LISA MCPHERSON. What about her death at the hands of Scientologists? Hmmm! And the lawsuit that was won on her behalf against Scientology. Tell us about Narconon which charges $22,000 to treat alcoholics and drug addicts with no results whatsoever

How 'bout we just leave a person and his religion alone, even Tom Cruise?

Isn't that why this country was founded?

So people can practice whatever effin' religion they wanted to?

For those saying that he is free to practice his religion or that scientology is just like any other religion, boy are you wrong!

The scientology Cruise and his celeb pals practices is not the same one practiced by the non-celeb Joe and Jane. He is not forced to sign up to the Sea Org for millions of years, he has not been subjected to cutting off his second ex-wife publicly because it won't be good for his image despite the fact that she left scientology and publicly stated that she left. His declaring her as an SP is being covered by scientology to shield his public image. He is not being paid just $50 because the cult won't let him out but has made him into a slave, pretty much. He eats like a king unlike the other scientologists.

Do your research before you start saying "live and let live". If you think the critics are being alarmists, go watch the video again and watch how Cruise laughs at the ideas of how SPs will be treated and seen by the future generations. SPs are essentially those who do not believe or a person or people scientologists believe are bad for their lives. These are the people scientologists have separated from their families in the cult by a letter, phone call or email to break ties.

Tom is the glamour face for an insidious greedy cult.

I wonder what Tom Cruise would say to "Fair Game" or "Operation Freakout":

(Paulette Cooper's account on how Scientology "fair games" its critics)

(The book that almost got Paulette killsed)

There are many videos on Scientology on YouTube, please look them up! It's scary that so many people still think it's a harmless religion:(

I'm intrigued by Scientology and have read a lot about it (pro and con) and I have to say that after getting to about minute 6 of this, I was thinking, "What the hell is he talking about?"
Whoever edited this must have some serious ADD because it made him look like a babbling, rambling, paranoid idiot. And the music... geez, do they use that monotonous crap to drive out the thetans or what?
Poor Tom... eventually he's going to lead some kind of Jim Jones finale that's going to make us all shake our heads sadly.
Peace,
Kelly

It is an insult to Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Bhuddism, and even Atheism! to call Scientology a "religion."

Scientology - based on a science fiction novel! - is a scam to make money and control people.

What's next, Hogwartism - the religion of Harry Potter???

Just re-visit Okra's couch. All of this actually does have some entertainment value for the shallow end of the gene pool. Tom needs to remember what John Lennon said. "Happiness....is a warm gun". So is aa good bowel movement. Happiness is fleeting, joy is not. And there are many hucksters ready to fleece you at the ticket booth of "Happiness".

For a look at how Scientology deals with its detractors...

http://www.scientomogy.com/stopscientology/

A number of horror stories about intimidation, defamation, abuse, fraud, theft, suppression of dissent both internally and in the public domain, etc.

Also a revealing list of names of front companies, organizations, individuals and websites that are actually Church of Scientology organization but do not represent themselves as such.

Cruise organizes everything in his life around his "church" so he doesn't pay much in taxes. That is what he means by "happiness".
