New updates below

Update:
Half an hour after posting this story, about two hours after gawker's time stamp, Huffington Post was alerted that the video content in the story was no longer there or playing. However, there are still excerpts of what Tom Cruise said in what was a 9+ minute video touting the wonders of Scientology. One quote Huffington Post remembers that gakwer does not mention is Tom Cruise saying something roughly equivalent to, "I have no time for spectators. Either get on the field or get out of the stadium." *(actual quote below)

Mark Ebner, the investigative reporter, just emailed us links to some Scientology promotional videos. Morton's central claim is that Cruise, star of movies from Risky Business to Mission Impossible, is the effective number two of the Church of Scientology, the cultish religion founded by L. Ron Hubbard, and subscribed to by other eccentric Hollywood actors such as John Travolta. The videos bear out, at the very least, that Cruise is central to the organization's marketing efforts. In this amazing clip, to a background track of theme from Mission Impossible, Cruise explains how Scientologists are "the authorities on the mind", the only people who can bring peace and unite cultures.

Update II:
Us Weekly has more of a transcript. A few highlights:

"Look, I wish the world was a different place. I'd like to go on vacation and go and romp and play and just do that, you know what I mean. That's what I want it to be. There's times I'd like to do that, but I can't because I know I have to do something about it.

"I have to do it because I can't live with myself if I don't, and that really is it.

"I have to tell you something - it is rough and tumble, and it's wild and wooly, and it's a blast, it's a blast, it really is fun because, dammit, there is nothing better than the going out there and fighting the fight and suddenly you see things are better.

"I need more help, get those spectators either in the playing field or out of the arena. Really, that's how I feel about it.**

Some are obsessed with Tom Cruise and his church, yet I don't see people harping about the Jesus cult that is played out in America on a daily basis.

Ever watch Christian TV? Now, that is scary.

Or how about driving down the street and seeing churches on every block?

Or the new age book stores?

Or the psychic advertising?

Or in the Middle East, with mosques everywhere?

Or Europe, with the massive cathedrals built with the blood of serfs?

Or the pyramids and temples in Egypt and Latin America?

What about Fascism, Communism and Nazism?

Tom Cruise ain't the only fool out there. Time to wake up from the Matrix.

The big difference between Tom and the rest, however, is that Tom hasn't murdered millions of people in the name of his cult.

Poor Tom - finally had a kid in an attempt to fool people into thinking he is straight. Not that anyone cares!

Every time I see him I think of Randy Newman's "Short People" song. Especially when he stands next to his current wife. Even more when he would stand next to Nicole.

Any organization that operates in a secretive and non-transparent manner should be suspect. This includes scientology, the mormon church and the Bush administration. If people apply critical analysis, common sense and good decision-making skills to their lives, we wouldn't have these for-profit "religious" organizations preying on the weak and dumb.

I hope all the hollywood converts are getting their money's worth. We all know they're probably paying through the nose to "find their way to true happiness." Gimme a break. Let's pull some heads out of some asses, people!

OK but I'm confused! Just tell me who to worship? Tom, Will, John or L. Ron who is in heaven or, at least, in his heavenly spaceship!;-)

Brothers and Sisters, I truly believe! Just let me know what I believe!

I don't get it. Why are so many people obsessed with a religion other than their own? Leave the guy alone.

And here I was thinking I was happy just being me.

How could I be so wrong as to not know that the only way to happiness is a made-up cult-like religion that nutty Hollywood goofballs subscribe to?

Oh woe is me!!!

heh...

Mind what you say here. Travolta is out shaking down his Air Force surplus B-52H extended range aircraft.
Go greased lightning.

Having $200 million plus in the bank helps in that 'way to happiness'... you don't have to worry about healthcare, eating food, gas prices, housing, or getting out of the country when its economy and political system is destroyed by politicians and their corporate masters.
