New updates below

Update:
Half an hour after posting this story, about two hours after gawker's time stamp, Huffington Post was alerted that the video content in the story was no longer there or playing. However, there are still excerpts of what Tom Cruise said in what was a 9+ minute video touting the wonders of Scientology. One quote Huffington Post remembers that gakwer does not mention is Tom Cruise saying something roughly equivalent to, "I have no time for spectators. Either get on the field or get out of the stadium." *(actual quote below)

Mark Ebner, the investigative reporter, just emailed us links to some Scientology promotional videos. Morton's central claim is that Cruise, star of movies from Risky Business to Mission Impossible, is the effective number two of the Church of Scientology, the cultish religion founded by L. Ron Hubbard, and subscribed to by other eccentric Hollywood actors such as John Travolta. The videos bear out, at the very least, that Cruise is central to the organization's marketing efforts. In this amazing clip, to a background track of theme from Mission Impossible, Cruise explains how Scientologists are "the authorities on the mind", the only people who can bring peace and unite cultures.

Update II:
Us Weekly has more of a transcript. A few highlights:

"Look, I wish the world was a different place. I'd like to go on vacation and go and romp and play and just do that, you know what I mean. That's what I want it to be. There's times I'd like to do that, but I can't because I know I have to do something about it.

"I have to do it because I can't live with myself if I don't, and that really is it.

"I have to tell you something - it is rough and tumble, and it's wild and wooly, and it's a blast, it's a blast, it really is fun because, dammit, there is nothing better than the going out there and fighting the fight and suddenly you see things are better.

"I need more help, get those spectators either in the playing field or out of the arena. Really, that's how I feel about it.**

tom will be living in his 10 million dollar bunker soon anyway. Do me a favor... If you live in Hollywood, go to his premieres and get by the ropeline. When he walks by get a crazy look in your eyes and say "Xenu is nearly here, the world will soon end" and get like 20 people to help you. After a few of these the kook is bound to go nuts and we won't be burdened with him anymore.

I don't get it... How can anyone indulge these fruitcakes? Thetans, alien overlords??? It's so dumb and so obviously a poorly written sci-fi story. I think you'd have to be crazy in the first place to buy into this nonsense.

Hey Tom, we are all ecstatic that you have found heaven on earth and that everything is coming up roses for you and yours - now go and make movies and leave us alone, you are a colossal glib bore beyond belief.

I had a nephew who was seduced into Scientology. He gave them his entire inheritance. Years later, he was found on a bench in New York City, totally incoherent. After getting some serious help, he moved to a small town, changed his name since he knew these nuts would come after him. He has taken on a new identity. AND, this was directly due to the brutality of the processes of Scientologists.

Scientology is NOT A RELIGION. Its founder, L. Ron Hubbard, believed that Jesus was a pedophile and that Satan is God and that he was Satan; he was a devotee of Alistair Simms, the head of the Satanists. SImms threw him out of the group because he said Hubbard was crazy. Hubbard was a paranoid schizophrenic who was on psychotropic drugs most of his life. At the end of his life, he was a raving lunatic and he was kept hidden from the public. Tom Cruise is no mental giant and he was seduced by Scientology in the early years of his acting career. If you want to read about the real Scientology organization go to: www.clambake.org - It is a very well researched website. The nickname for Scientologists is "clams" since Hubbards belief is that we came from clams.

If anyone thinks this is a small group of ineffective wackos, you should visit Clearwater Beach, Florida. The Scientologists own that town.

Just what we need. Another true believer. At least he is only a movie actor. No need to worry. Right. Right.

Doesn't everyong who belongs to some kind of religion think that "their" religion is the way to fulfillment? Why should Tom Cruise be any different. I would really think he was a hypocrite if he didn't believe that way.

Why do folks get in such a state over scientology? It is a believe system that like all things of faith are in the eye of the beholder.I do not believe or disbelieve any faith whether it be Catholic,Muslim,Buddhist .........because I am a realist and in my life have seen proof of none. But I see no need to belittle others for their beliefs.
Those who preach forgiveness are always the first to judge.
