The facts were a death knell to the invasion of Iraq too. Just because the overwhelming intelligence proves there is no threat to the U.S., as it did prior to invading Iraq, doesn't mean Bush won't attack Iran anyway -- with the support of at least of half of the Dems, including Hillary and Obama.

In the faith-based world, everything is just a matter of belief or opinion. Facts are pretty far down on the list of priorities, and facts can be made up to suit the beliefs.

There's a similar idea among anti-evolutionists who want their creationist viewpoint taught in schools. Nevermind what the facts are, or the (scientific) barrenness and error of their beliefs, or the great success of evolutionary theory, or the near-unanimous professional judgment of people who work on these things for a living. They want their beliefs taught.

Bush would no more accept the judgment of the people who spy on Iran and make sense out of what they see, than creationists would accept the judgment of professional biologists.
