Huckabee Constitution God

Raw Story:

The United States Constitution never uses the word "God" or makes mention of any religion, drawing its sole authority from "We the People." However, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee thinks it's time to put an end to that.

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

The back end of the horse has spoken...

Rewrite the Constitution to serve Huckabees vengeful and bloodthirsty God? There are at least two victims here....
1) The GOP has been co-opted by rightwing nutjobs spouting fanatical fundamentalism and trying to rally a base that doesn't think, that doesn't believe in science, to further its own agenda. How better can it get than being supported by a rabble of illiterates while you rape and pillage a country?

2) The mainstream Christians who have tried to operate in a moderate zone between politics and belief have also been co-opted by the same thugs, represented by the likes of Huckabee.

Personally, I don't like Christians as a group because they are bent on Armageddon and are not tolerant, regardless of Christ's admonishments to be so. They represent a religious war with the Jews and the Muslims and all three believe the other two are doomed and that their path alone leads to heaven and they are willing to kill to prove it...

however, I am soooooo glad Huckabee said this and I hope that he says more of the same and that the media doesn't bury this. How many Michigan folks would like to hear this quote today?

Year in and year out, the Republicans keep saying wacky **** like this, but the Democrats refuse to bury the Repubs with their own words. It would be so easy to do, but the Dems refuse to do so. It's almost like they WANT to lose...

It's worse than 1984, it's a Brave New World. Minus the eugenics, of course, but full of drugged out people distracted by consumerism and sex, neatly segmented into their proper social class and oh so happy to let someone else do the thinking for them. I'm so glad I'm a Beta.

For all Joe Scarborough's failings, at least he understands the difference between politics and religion. Please, more Repubs, pull your head out and listen to what Huckabee is saying!

Personally, I'd like to rewrite the Constitution to be in line with The Lotus Sutra, but that's just me.

The GOP has two snake-handling, bible-thumping preachers running for president.
One wants to alter the Constitution for God
The other wants to end the government for the Constitution.
Up is down. War is peace. More BushWorld.

To throw constitution based arguments at the fundamentalists is to throw glass jars at stone walls. These people do not care about constitutional principles. They have been indoctrinated to believe the First Amendment prevents any of the many Christian denominations from gaining dominance over the other Christian denominations and that Christianity WAS established BY THE CONSTITUTION to be the SUPREME AND DOMINATE religion of America. So it is useless to advance the Constitution to counter THEIR arguments if we seek to change THEIR minds. What’s needed are rocks to throw at their glass houses. Those rocks are the basic, elementary, FUNDAMENTAL tenets of the Christian religion.

The purpose of the Christian religion is to worship a Galilean who is held to be the Messiah and to follow his teachings for the purpose of achieving salvation unto eternal life. The concept of eternal life is the very core of Christianity. The only motive for believing in Jesus is to be able to live forever and ever.

The revolt against the Catholic Church in the 16th Century, of which Fundamentalists are heirs, restricted the means of achieving this eternal life to only ONE way, ONE means, ONE method: all men (and women) and, any given man (or woman), is saved ONLY by the GRACE of God. Humankind is so debauched by Adam’s act no one has any influence over his own salvation, much less any control over it. Salvation is strictly a matter of God’s choice, not of human act. No one can live his life so “good” as to merit, or obtain, salvation by a “good” living of his life.

Huckabee wants to replace the Constitution with God’s law. There can be no statement more anti-Christian than that. It violates Salvation by Grace and Original Sin. It totally denies faith in Christ and promotes faith in law. It puts works ahead of faith. It portends the legalistic society into which Jesus was born and by which He died. It gets no one into heaven.

Fundamentalists’ politics fail on the tenets of their religion, not by Constitutional principles.

It is rather refreshing when one of them drops all pretense of civility and lets their true colors show.

WTF? I thought he believed we were already a Christian Nation (TM), and that the Constitution was founded on Biblical Principles (TM).

This is nuts! Please, pass this story around. It must be more publicized.

These people are PROOF there is no "God" and certainly no such thing as "Intelligent Design." In fact, they make a good argument AGAINST evolution. Sheesh.
