Huckabee Constitution God

Raw Story:

The United States Constitution never uses the word "God" or makes mention of any religion, drawing its sole authority from "We the People." However, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee thinks it's time to put an end to that.

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

That the Huckster would win in Iowa speaks volumes about where Americans are going. They've gone from believing in themselves to believing in a non-existing entity. PT is laughing his ass off right now! I wonder how much will get done while waiting for IT to show up. Hercules had it right when he told the villagers, "the Gods help those that help themselves." He didn't believe the stories either and realized the only way to get something done was to convince people they had to do it. It wouldn't surprise me if these buffoons didn't start calling for another Grand Inquisition.

I think that Mike Huckabee genuinely believes what he's saying and that's fine. But not if he's in the Oval Office.
What I can tolerate as a person's individual beliefs I cannot and will not tolerate when spoken as someone looking to win election to the most powerful job in the U.S. and the world entire.
He may be well-spoken, self-deprecating, comical and laidback in his media approach and appearances but he is, indeed, a religious wolf in sheep's clothes. And it's the sheep he's courting that scare the Moses out of me (cause I had no Jesus in me to begin with.)

Dear Pastor Hucabee:
It would seem that you do not understand the concept of seperation of church and state. The following quotes are passages from the Constitution of the United States of america.

"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

"ARTICLE One
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; of the right of the people peaceably
to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The United States of America is both secular society and a government that recognizes the rights of its citizens to practice or not practice the religion of their choice. We do not have an official state religion, or a theocracy. Been there, done that, no t-shirt but plenty of bad memories.

Sincerely yours
RGKahn

The Democrats have their issues, but at least they don't shamelessly pander to the least educated demographic in the country with promises of committing treason against our country's first principles.

Which God?
Which standards? They already pick and choose which of the Old Testament injunctions they keep and which they throw away (how many follow Deut. 25-11 anymore?). Imagine if this is thrown into a Republican Supreme Court (You have to marry your brother's widow unless she's a Democratt, in which case you may smite her).
Do we get to vote? If so, at what level? There are places in the country with "majority minorities"--could an Asian county go ZenShiite or BudIslamic?
If the Bible is silent on a subject, are the laws wiped off the books (speeding and using speed come to mind) or will we have Interpreters of the Will reading tea leaves and chicken entrails to see what Moses would have said about watching reality television or Fox News? (You'd think the commandment about bearing false witness would come into play, but I guess it would depend on who was doing the interpreting.)

HuckupChuck: There is a country whose Constitution is devoted to God, and in fact commands obedience to the Almighty.

Iran's.

So, Ron Paul's newsletter stated, in a non-ironic tone, that we should use stoning as in the bible as the form of capital punishment in the US and Huckabee wants to amend the constitution for his own Christian-brand of Sharia law, while many Republicans won't vote for Romney because he's the wrong branch of Christianity (there are many better reasons not to vote for him).
The Republican party. Building a bridge to the 7th century!

Oh, for the love of God.

And I mean that literally. The whole point of the Constitution and our system of government was to remove the arguments that come from "faith based" issues. Rather than have governments trying to decide how many angels could dance on the head of a pin, the Founders knew that good government would concern itself with matters of state: maintaining roads, armies, establishing common laws of justice.

For Huckabee to claim that we need to "fix" the Constitution to bring it in line with "God's view" shows an incredible ignorance and hubris. What vision of God's is that? Baptist? Catholic? Mormon? Jewish? Muslim? Are we going to have food regulated because of religious beliefs?

Once you start down the dark path of mixing religion with your government, you invite only rancor, prejudice, and discrimination. Render under God what is God's, and unto Caesar what is Caesar's.

Seems that a famous Christian once said that. Perhaps Huckabee would be wise to remember it.

What a great idea...one theocracy under Allah. Never been done before.

Mr. Reverend Pastor Huckabee is a raving maniac, he should be a man without a country, I certainly do not want him as President of the United States of America. Huckabee is a dangerous moron whose positions are not those of MY God.
