Tom Cruise

Update: The original embedded YouTube video has now been pulled, but new versions are getting uploaded.

If the YouTube does not work, Gawker again has it

New updates below

Update:
Half an hour after posting this story Sunday at 10 pm, about two hours after gawker's time stamp, Huffington Post was alerted that the video content in the story was no longer there or playing. However, there are still excerpts of what Tom Cruise said in what was a 9+ minute video touting the wonders of Scientology. One quote Huffington Post remembers that gakwer does not mention is Tom Cruise saying something roughly equivalent to, "I have no time for spectators. Either get on the field or get out of the stadium." *(actual quote below)

Mark Ebner, the investigative reporter, just emailed us links to some Scientology promotional videos. Morton's central claim is that Cruise, star of movies from Risky Business to Mission Impossible, is the effective number two of the Church of Scientology, the cultish religion founded by L. Ron Hubbard, and subscribed to by other eccentric Hollywood actors such as John Travolta. The videos bear out, at the very least, that Cruise is central to the organization's marketing efforts. In this amazing clip, to a background track of theme from Mission Impossible, Cruise explains how Scientologists are "the authorities on the mind", the only people who can bring peace and unite cultures.

Update II:
Us Weekly has more of a transcript. A few highlights:

"Look, I wish the world was a different place. I'd like to go on vacation and go and romp and play and just do that, you know what I mean. That's what I want it to be. There's times I'd like to do that, but I can't because I know I have to do something about it.

"I have to do it because I can't live with myself if I don't, and that really is it.

"I have to tell you something - it is rough and tumble, and it's wild and wooly, and it's a blast, it's a blast, it really is fun because, dammit, there is nothing better than the going out there and fighting the fight and suddenly you see things are better.

"I need more help, get those spectators either in the playing field or out of the arena. Really, that's how I feel about it.**

Wow, I just read about Scientology in Wikipedia. What a freak zone. I spent a few years dealing with some people who had similar cultish tendencies and believed in alien theories, that we have been "seeded" here by aliens, blah blah.

The thing is, maybe it's true, it sounds great, explains the missing link, the only problem is . . . there is NO EVIDENCE AT ALL TO SUPPORT THIS. And this never seems to sway these true believers. All they need is to have someone claim to have "channeled" this information, and they're on the bus and drinking the Kool Aid and ranting about evil reptilians.

It's so depressing.

Does Scientology really and truly have all this shit about aliens and evil overlords bringing people to the planet, etc, as people have been posting? Is it that crazy? Does anyone know for sure what you are eventually taught?

". . . [G]et those spectators either in the playing field or out of the arena." - Tom Cruise (1/14/08)

"You're either with us or against us in the fight against terror." - GWB (11/6/01)

“You're either part of the solution or part of the problem.” - Eldridge Cleaver (date unk)

I like Eldrige best. At least he was willing to put his butt on the line for what he believe in. However, nothing is quite that (pardon the expression) black and white.

He needs new handlers. You'd think he would be toning the Scientology stuff down considering everyone sees him for what he is, a whack job that makes right wing fundies look reasonable.

tough to make much sense of these blurbs...but judging tom's body language, and his authenticity, i know he believes in this. he is obviously at a place in his life where he is able to share his convictions and intentions with out excuses.
i wish him all the best, he has worked for that at the very least!

every college campus should have an Anti-Cult Education program and security on campus to keep these freaks away from the students. The Scientologists have plants all over the colleges preying on young kids who are away from home for the first time in their life. They recruit the lonely ones and suck them dry.

The whole "live and let live" thing is ok if they (Scientologists) live by it too, but they don't. Look-up Operation Snow White; Operation Freakout; Scientology in Clearwater, FL.; The Queen v. Church of Scientology of Toronto; Hill v. Church of Scientology of Toronto; Lisa McPherson; The Fair Game Policy; Scamizdat; Dead Agenting; and list goes on and on.

And they were doing so well with the book. They've almost convinced everyone that Morton's book is nothing but rubbish and has nothing to say. This video is actually going to make Cruise look a lot worse than the book. It couldn't have come at a worst time!

Cruise needs a script writer, badly. He talks a series of slogans or he's totally inarticulate.

There is NOTHING tangible about his statements/ comments. Eg. "When I read it, I just went phoo! This is it." What is THIS, he doesn't go on to explain.

And you know what? His acting isn't even that good, HE IS JUST NOT BELIEVABLE!@#$%%^^&*

Scientology was developed so that L. Ron Hubbard could have a tax deductible organization. The guy was really an egomaniac, and he knew how to control people. I remember years ago how it's new memebers would chase you down the street with Dyanetics in their hands. Some people have a need to be told what to do, how to think and where it is at. Others do not. Tom Cruise is no different than any of these religious fools who think they have cornered the market on truth. They are all the same.

Hey Tom, I'm a nurse. I have stopped at many many accidents. Stopped bleeding, prevented shock, etc. Do scientologists take CPR and First Aid? I thought not. Do they give scientology crash courses before the person dies?

Tom, you've got to look at this video of yourself. You sound Napoleonic. You are the one who needs the help, Tom. Grandiosity ain't normal. Oh yea, you know about all of that stuff, you have studied it, haven't you? You just know. Scary, Tom, scary. Don't threaten the rest of the world with your personal beliefs, OK?

He should go back to being a male prostitute; he was probably a lot more skilled at that.
