Former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell told Congress on Tuesday that Major League Baseball's players and owners must come together "in a well-planned, well-executed and sustained effort" to remove steroids from the national pastime.

In reply, Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said that he may be able to reach an agreement with the players' union within the next few months on Mitchell's call for independent testing of players for banned drugs.

He's gone from a figurehead to a figurenose. Is this Nostrilgate? I'm glad the team owner's hadn't removed all his powers. It's an assumption he was picking his nose. Maybe he was putting something in his nose.

As anyone who saw his testimony knows, Selig was demonstrating intranasal ingestion of powdered steroid compounds, a technique preferred by athletes who wish to avoid the track marks that can arise from even gluteal injection.

Please check your facts before resorting to ridicule.
