Draft Lou Dobbs Group Launches Campaign

Move over Michael Bloomberg. Another famous figure is the subject of a presidential draft movement: CNN's own Lou Dobbs.

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC -- a group, according to its Web site, that supports candidates "who make illegal immigration reduction a top priority" -- launched a campaign Wednesday designed to convince the CNN anchor to enter the presidential race if a so-called "pro-amnesty" candidate wins the Republican presidential nomination. According to the group, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, and Rudy Giuliani all fall into that category.

As of 2006, California contained greater than 25% of the total illegal alien population within the U.S. Many of these illegals concentrate in Los Angeles. New statistics from the Department of Public Social Services reveal that illegal aliens and their families in Los Angeles County collected over $37 million in welfare and food stamp allocations in November 2007 – up $3 million dollars from September. Twenty five percent of the all welfare and food stamps benefits are going directly to the children of illegal aliens. Illegals collected over $20 million in welfare assistance for November 2007 and over $16 million in monthly food stamp allocations for a projected annual cost of $444 million. “This new information shows an alarming increase in the devastating impact Illegal immigration continues to have on Los Angeles County taxpayers,” said Antonovich, LA County Supervisor. “With $220 million for public safety, $400 million for healthcare, and $444 million in welfare allocations, the total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year – not including the millions of dollars for education.”

Just keep in mind that the $37 million a month is for only one county in one state and is only welfare and foodstamp benefits. There are 29 sanctuary cities in California and because of that there should be little wonder why so many illegal aliens stay in this state. All things considered, California has rolled out the welcome mat for them.

Is there any wonder that California is right now in a fiscal crisis emergency with a budget deficit greater than $14 billion and growing? Reliable estimates calculate illegal aliens cost the state $10.5 billion each year! Why not cut all public services to those not in the U.S. legally? Just a simple thought on my part that would go a long way to putting California back on its feet. But, I digress…Lou Dobbs is the only news anchor who has been reporting and exposing this situation in the MSM.

Lou Dobbs had a strong response when the Treasury Department had given permission for the UAE to purchase ports in several places here in the USA. Treasury had not gone through the proper venting before they signed on to that deal. Lou called their hand at it. He has great credentials and well educated. Why can't we give him credit for telling America that we are losing our shirts to unwise business and trade? That is all he has tried to do, inform us when others only want to give us their warmed over news. I read that the USA has 38 million foreign workers now, both legal and illegal. How can we keep our living standards up if we have so many people here and willing to work for less than it takes us to keep a car?

The reality of Lou Dobbs is quite simple - he is an opportunist. He began his tirade about the security threat of broken borders long after 9/11 and continues his "research" on a problem that many in this country should have noticed 20 years ago. Yes we have a problem but Lou Dobbs and his keen sense of the obvious pandered to the xenophobic and saw book deals. Middle America thinks they have found a savior in Dobbs. Give me a break! Nafta is the problem for the loss of many high paying jobs but middle America is suddenly alarmed about brown people invading their towns. The economy is tanking because of coporatism and artifially low interest rates but always count on bobbyjoe and peggysue to get it wrong - gays, guns, God and brown people.

I'm really not all that sure if Lou Dobbs could even beat David Duke in a primary for who hates brown people more. And to anyone who thinks this "illegal immigration" thing is actually an issue, I say stop being a xenophobic racist ignorant creep. For well over a thousand years, my people (hebrews) were oppressed for being illegal immigrants. Oddly enough, Napoleon changed that (in France). If you want to stop illegals from taking your jobs, either agree to work for pennies an hour or start demanding workers' rights in America again. Undo the Reagan damage.

"Companies rely on illegal immigrants to do jobs they aren’t willing to pay much for. In 1980 a meat-packing job paid 19 dollars an hour but today that same job pays closer to 9 dollars an hour, according to the Labor Department. Illegal aliens depress wages for U.S. workers by as much as $200 billion a year, in addition to placing a tremendous burden on hospitals, schools and other social services."

What a huge breath of fresh air should Lou Dobbs throw his hat in the ring. I would definitely vote for him. Not only is he the only MSM news anchor taking on illegal immigration (which he is totally correct on), he has taken on the economy, special interests, lobbyist influence peddling, government corruption, truth in government, religion in politics, free trade and favored trade status issues, national security, middle class erosion and American worker protection, our crumbling infrastructure, education, food safety and inspections, the environment, China's dangerous imports and its influence on our national deficit, NAFTA, SPP, NAU, LOST, ridiculous government treaties, crime, drugs, racial issues and the list goes on.

Lou Dobbs has talked about, taken stances on, exposed and researched more issues than any other presidential candidate ever has or ever will.

You have two jobs available in construction that pay $22/hr (a good not great wage).
Two applicants arrive at your office each claiming to have the required skills.
One is obviously newly arrived from Mexico and one an AA, has been a Citizen since his birth.
You know you can hire the Mexican for $12/hr.
Are your pinciples of fair play stronger than your ability to pickup an extra $400/wk?
Lou Dobbs will save you from yourself.......because in 5 years that Mexican will start his own business and undercut your prices because he'll pay his help $7/hr.
THAT is what is going on out there.
I just retired from Contracting after 36yrs....it is now a race to the bottom.

It wasn't the Mexicans who brought down the twin towers. It wasn't the Mexicans who shipped decent paying jobs overseas. It wasn't the Mexicans who put bad mortgage policies in place. It wasn't the Mexicans who threw away hundreds of billions of dollars in occupying Iraq for the oil companies who now charge the american consumer more than three dollars for a gallon of gas. It wasn't the Mexican Reserve that kept weakening the dollar. Somehow though these apple picking, toilet cleaning, leaf raking desperate people are the true enemy of this country. Amazing!

I used to like Lou Dobbs, somewhat, but he's starting to make Rudy Giuliani look modest. And Olbermann's show is much better, not solely being devoted to the jingoistic-smelling anti-illegal immigrant campaign.
I do think illegal immigrants are a big problem, because they completely invalidate the concept of citizenship without which a republic cannot exist. But I don't like the racist smell around Dobbs' campaign.
