Starbucks

Wall Street Journal:

Starbucks Corp. plans to stop selling organic milk at its stores next month.

The Seattle coffee giant has stocked organic milk at U.S. shops since 2001. Starbucks spokesman Brandon Borrman said the original reason for offering it was to cater to customers who wanted milk from cows that weren't given recombinant bovine growth hormone.

Earlier this month, Starbucks completed the switch to serving milk only from cows that weren't given the artificial growth hormone, which helps cows produce more milk.

jdm58 aside, organic milk is different than "hormone free" milk, in part, because the feed for the animals is not drowned in fertilizers and pesticides. this has a lot of benefit beyond your danged mug, and those of us who wish to drink milk should only buy organic. same with coffee, only you should insist on organic AND free trade, which is pretty thin on the ground at starbucks.

i agree that their coffee is awful, but i appreciate that they offer healthcare even to part-time employees, as well as profit-sharing. again, benefits beyond your mug - think a lil' bigger!

OMG - DON'T TAKE AWAY THE ORGANIC MILK, NOOOOOO!!!

We Americans aren't very bright. Tell us bottled water is better than tap, overcharge us, and we'll believe it and more importantly, buy it - hook, line and sinker. Then, tell us coffee is better with an exotic name, overcharge us and guess what, we'll believe it and more importantly, buy it - hook, line and sinker... Dopes.

WHY isn't this headline "Starbucks to serve only hormone-free milk"? The real news here is that Starbucks is now supplying hormone-free throughout its entire chain -- as the default, not an option. That's a change I'd love to see other chains make.

WAKE UP AMERICA!!! What we are having passed off on us as wholesome, and organic, may be anything but. Currently, demand for "organic" milk exceeds supply. The dairy farmers are scrambling to find enough organic feed (required to be fed their dairy cows in support of their "organic" claim). This is especially the case since more and more domestic grain farmers are now selling their feed as bio-fuel, as this market is more profitable. So what's a dairy farmer to do? Why, import their grain from CHINA!!! Yes, the same country that exported poisoned dog and cat food and lead tainted toys to the unsuspecting american consumer, now supplies us with our "organic" feed, to produce the "organic" milk we drink. DON'T FALL FOR IT!!!

Hmmm...more of the same from 'ol Bucks. While Howie is back at CEO we'll see more of this kind of thing in the future. Bucks used to be special, even though their burnt coffee wasn't the most desired for some. They used to offer 3rd party products (like Nissan mugs, for example), yet when Howard Schultz moved in and took them public, the MBA's made sure to to get rid of all that excess and streamline = water down = the enterprise and start cloning around the world. They don't even have real baristas anymore - no more artistry, which was the fracking point of going there in the first place, no? No organic milk in this day and age is a recipe for disaster, which is fine by me, I'd rather support my local coffee shop anyway, who sell organic, offer raw, and just have smoother coffee anyway.

Milk products are good for you. I have experimented to leave it out of the diet and what happened my teeth became sort of see-thru,
off colored. As soon as I brought dairy products back in my diet my teeth turned white
again. Now that is personal experience and it made a believer out of me!

I wished they sold ORGANIC Milk. It is not RAW Milk but pasteurized and once pasteurized it defeats the purpose. Give me raw milk anytime.
Now congress wants to outlaw raw milk. Why
not have a healthy nation but a nation on legal
drugs seems to be their goal.

Whenever a coffee shop starts selling music cds you know they're in trouble.

Prices are not going up, the dollar is going down.

That should be obvious really...

$4 for a cup of bad coffee.

Go to Whole Foods, purchase 1/4 pound of whatever they have just roasted. Take it home and brew it. That sweet, nutty flavor is how coffee is supposed to taste.

I make my own coffee, every morning. My wife thinks Starbucks is a big treat and wants to go every now and again, mostly again, I can live without it.

My two cents about Starsucks:

Profit, profit, profit...and...

Uh-oh, now we see a McDonald's threat.

Did they ever actually advertise the Organic Milk in any substantive way? I never saw anything about it until now. Such knowledge would have made me more likely to buy their rust-removing coffee.

Over roasted to the point of burnt is Starbucks. Awful, overpriced cup 'o joe. Someone needs to deacidify coffee for those of us with tender tummies.
