It seems to me that there is a singular circularity to the neo-con logic, whether it is applied to the economy, the occupation of Iraq, tax breaks for their financial backers, or whatever.
The neo-con logic goes like this:
"The (economy)(occupation) is doing very (well)(badly), and the federal government needs to do something about it. Obviously, what the government needs to do is (cut taxes for the wealthy)(cut services for everyone)(increase the number of troops on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan)."

My point is, that the Bushites decide ahead of time what they are going to do, then they declare that the reality demands that their prescribed course of action is the only one that makes sense.
To Bush/Cheney, reality doesn't matter. What is important is that their goals be reached, whatever those goals may be. Logic be damned.
