Talking Points Memo:

At some point you'd think Mike Huckabee's views would be seen as so controversial that there's no way he could possibly be a contender for the nomination of one of America's two main political parties.

Especially now. In an interview with Beliefnet.com, a religion Web site, Huck has just clarified his view that the Constitution should be amended to be brought in line with God's will -- and he directly equated homosexuality with bestiality.

To those arguing that allowing same-sex marriage would open the door to bestiality and pedophilia, I would like to see you present your argument. Forget about the Bible, that is not a compelling argument unless you *already* take as self-evidently true the idea that there is a God and that the Jews and Christians have an accurate portrait of that entity through the Bible. There is no compelling reason to accept those as self-evidently true. So, here's the hurdles you have to clear.

You must first get past the slippery slope argument. To do so, you must demonstrate that somehow allowing same-sex marriage would *necessarily* open the door to either pedophilia or bestiality. Which means you must draw some kind of reasonable causal relationship between homosexuality and bestiality or pedophilia.

After you have done that, you must demonstrate how an argument could be built justifying either pedophilia or bestiality based upon same-sex relationships. When you have accomplished that, you must then demonstrate how the mere presence of same-sex marriage (anywhere, not just in the US) weakens the argument against, say, pedophilia *particularly* in light of what we know (not think but know) about the development of human brains and the psychological and legal rationales behind not letting children vote, drive, etc.

When you have accomplished ALL of the above (and that is no small amount of argument you must establish), then you can begin to demonstrate that there would be manifest social harm resulting from allowing same-sex marriage.

Now, I strongly doubt that there is a single one of you arguing against same-sex marriage who will take up this challenge but it would be interesting to see you try. If you *really* believe what you are spewing then you should be able to present a rational argument. If you can't, then there is no reason why the rest of us should consider your position as being reasonable if you cannot demonstrate it as such.

Cheers
LF

I don't think you should be treated as a second-class citizen based on who you have sex with, or whether you have kids etc. But, such is the 21st century world that we live in, jobsite discrimination's a reality, if you're not on the family track, woe betide you come promotion time...

Can I please state the obvious?

This man must be speaking from personal experience. I don't see any other explanation for such an outrageous comment. How would there be any other justification for it? He claims to know. On what basis? It has to be his own experiences that lead him to this conclusion.

I'm not trying to be rude - I think this needed to be said.

I know it's not true generally about those in the homosexual community. But in Huckabee's twisted experience it could be, couldn't it? The man DOES appear to be psychologically damaged - some of his disturbing behaviors indicate that this is so. Perhaps this is part of the problem.

Look what one of his own sons did to an animal - there's mental illness there.

where does Huckabee or anyone else get the right to impose their religious standards on people who don't share their views? What an arrogant ass.

I remember hearing an argument between a conservative Christian politico and a drug war reform activist.... This politician's reasoning for not allowing the legalization of Marijuana was that "everyone would be high and the country would come to a stop..." The activist responded by asking if the politician thought so little of the people of his country that they couldn't be trusted to have what they wanted." The reply was that no, the people of this country can't be trusted to make their own choices...

I don't know what makes this asshole think that he can push everyone around with his bullshit -

Amend the Constitution to be in line with the living God (whatever the hell that is) -

Compare himself to others and claim that they are deviant...

Quarantine Aides patients...

TheoFascism... Fanatacism....

Its ok Fuckabee, God is gonna get you... judge not lest YOU be judged.

and stop staring at that horses ass, it has more relevent things to say than you do AND you are making the horse nervous...

"If it wasn't for my horse, I never would have gone to college."

...a stupid statement overheard by the comedian, Lewis Black. He said if he thought about it for more than 3 minutes, blood would squirt out of his nose, and his head would explode.

Stay safe, healthy and happy,
Love, Loretta
