Romney and an AP reporter had words over the candidate's statement that lobbyists aren't running his campaign at an event in Columbia, S.C. The reporter interupted to point out that Ron Kaufman, a senior advisor, is a lobbyist.

Why I'm not a journalist--
When that campaign hack cornered me, telling me to act professional, I would not have been restrained in my response.
I would have quit debating him on the 'truth'. He says he's not paid and he doesn't attend senior strategy meetings. I would do some digging and find out if the two have financial links and what meetings he does attend.
Not to defend Romney but lobbyists and politicians run in the same circle and feed at the same trough. It is within the realm of possiblity they are friends and he's a supporter doing this on his own time (not likely, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt).
The predicament facing all politicians is their staff. Unlike the rest of us who have real jobs, their jobs are to get people elected and of course in the great tradition of free enterprise get something in return for all their hard work, be it a full time job as an appointee or money to a company that will later employ them.
Anyone looking to defend Romney, please keep in mind that his implicit point was that "other candidates" have closer ties to lobbyists than he does. In other words, if THEY use lobbyists as "advisors," that counts as "close ties," but if HE uses them, it doesn't.
How refreshing, to see the press corps start doing its job again. And how revealing, to see one of Romney's shills hassle him for "disrupting" Romney's sound byte. The press works for US, not Romney. Someone explain that novel concept to Romney and his handlers.

I smell a revolution. Tom Jefferson suggested one every decade or so, just to keep us honest. If not now, when? The ONLY time Washington does what we want is when we force them to. NOW is the time. If corporations are people, they should be taxed as such, and subject to the same limitations when it comes to "contributions". NO corporate donations without taxation.
