TG Daily:

Last week, Blu-ray had its best week ever with 85% of the high-def disc market share, according to trade publication Home Media Magazine.

Since the beginning of the format war, Blu-ray has been consistently outperforming HD DVD, but never at such a large rate. The second-place format was dealt a big blow a couple weeks ago when Warner Bros announced it was dropping HD DVD support, preventing the format from gaining any momentum during the Consumer Electronics Show.

Additionally, Home Media Magazine reports that the 10 top-selling HD titles last week were all Blu-ray Discs, the first time that not one HD DVD made the list.

So HD-DVD is the betamax of the physical multimedia industry? Why, does Blueray have better performance drawing less CPU in players saving manufacturers in chip costs -and- better response time for DVR's? I don't get it. Why the switch??? It would be interesting if someone could post a link to bench-times of Blue-Ray disks in various player environments. I mean, isn't the whole point of new technology that it somehow is supposed to have greater benefit for industry -and- consumers? There has to be some kind of logical reason for the switch to Blueray. Right?

So stupid.

Physical media is going away whether you like it or not. You will still have discs as an option but that's going to be a small, small sector of the overall market.

Centralization of digital assets plus broadband ubiquity means - the world just changed again.

You don't have to like it. But it's here.

Anyone who tries to tell you that one 'format' is better than another or yammers on about 'downloads' and 'the internet'.. or especially '2.0' is stumbling around with blinders on and should be disregarded entirely.

Evolve or don't. Technology keeps going anyway.

Give me unlimited, instant access to the media and entertainment properties of the world for me to pick and choose on my own terms - or give me death.

Being attached to physical media at this point is like still being attached to muskets w/bayonets in the middle of the Iraq War.

They should've all agreed on one format from the start. Needing two players (or one even more expensive combo player) to watch everything you want in HD is for the birds. One format prevailing will be better for the consumer in the end, even though the brief format war served to bring down prices sooner.

You can hear the folks at Sony breathing a collective sigh of relief.

Betamax revenge.

Blu-Ray does look and sound better and is in the game consoles.

I don't know what a Blu-Ray is, but I know enough not to swim too close to one.
