Fey & Poehler: We Need More Babies Like This

Fey & Poehler: We Need More Babies Like This

If you think this post has nothing to do with media and it's just an excuse for me to post a trailer on a holiday while getting my SNL jones on, think again! Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have everything to do with media. I have long thought that the tired old tropes of "Girls aren't funny," and "Girls don't have gravitas" were interrelated in both sexism and stupidity, and Fey and Poehler have disproved both of them again and again, on the one hand by being hilarious on SNL and 30 Rock and UCB and Mean Girls and Blades of Glory and what have you, and on the other by blithely busting through all sorts of stupid archaic TV taboos by being the first all-female anchor team, a solid two years before Katie took the anchor chair, looking way less happy than either of them to be there. With their new movie, Baby Mama, they bring girl power to new heights by making a pregnancy movie that basically cuts out the male middleman entirely (this of course is because Fey takes over the traditionally male role of being befuddled by what's going on with her partner's body but since Poehler is equally befuddled it seems to work). Shades of Liz Lemon shacking up with Amber, with a dash of Kaitlyn. If you're like me, you think that sounds pretty awesome. Okay maybe this was just an excuse to show the trailer.

Hat tip: Jezebel.
