Oliver Stone has set his sights on his next directing project, "Bush," a film focusing on the life and presidency of George W. Bush, and attached Josh Brolin to play the title role.

The director has begun quietly shopping a script by his "Wall Street" co-writer Stanley Weiser.

Pic will be produced by Moritz Borman, who teamed with Stone on "World Trade Center" and "Alexander," and Jon Kilik, a producer of "Alexander" as well as "Pinkville," the pre-strike project about the Army's investigation of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam that Stone expected to direct until United Artists pulled the plug late last year.

I think that Stone's choice of Brolin is a mistake. Brolin shows more personal character in his picture that Bush shows in his whole body. That difference will be a jarring dissonance throughout the entire film.

Dear Mr. Stone: Thank you in advance for what will put revisionists forever in a panic. Also, please creat a documentary supplement for special prosecutors so the legendary criminality of Chimpy Bush & his kin will be conspicuous to all for a thousand years.

most of oliver stones movies have given me a headache, especially "natural born killers" which was almost unwatchable. That he would chose so uninteresting, infamous and yet mediocre a subject as Bush is beyond me.

you can count me out

He could even canibalize his earlier films about Jim Morrison and Richard M Nixon. The former for a tale of drunken excess, the latter could be cribbed for a President drunk on his own power.

Both are products of the same Yale class; both are losers.

I'd much rather see a documentary of the Bush presidency, mainly to make sure that the truth of the past 7 years remains in the history books, not a glorified rendition produced by bush's buddies and the republicans. As everyone can tell, the corruption, greed, and partisanship of the prior two congresses and this administration is quietly being allowed to fade away. The current republican candidates sure haven't discussed it, and sadly neither have the democratic candidates. Bush's fantasy of being a modern day George Washington should NOT be what future generations know about this period. Only by shedding light on this time and demanding accountability from those responsible can this country start to regain its greatness. Otherwise, the corruption will return time and again.

it's important that someone keep the pressure on and Oliver Stone does just that!

Will it be a mini-series or a trilogy? There is way to much material for a 2 hour long movie. And we still have one year to go.

His movie about 9/11 seemed off the mark. I guess this new movie will show if he will tell the unvarnished and shocking truth or has somehow been mind controlled. Whatever the case his movie about the JFK assassination is a good history lesson.

Aznurse: "...........(With Hillary)there will be an end to the investigations, the new saying will be we must move on, etc.

President Ford did exactly that with Watergate and that's one of the reasons why we are where we are today, because letting criminals get away with it only guarantees it will be repeated and compounded again in the future.
But we never learn. We are stupid and self destructive. Betcha we do exactly that.

The reason why Stone is so controversial is because most people see movies and don't read --hence biographies are mostly not noticed--and he commands respect and has enormous influence globally because he presents the truth, and where that is murky he is not afraid of connecting the dots and presenting his interpretation based on that connection. His films score big with Europeans because they are more informed and educated and not cowed by religion as much--they do not dismiss Darwin like 80% of Americans do for instance--and that's why a film like "Alexander" did well in Europe but tanked here thanks to the overwhelming homophobic bigotry in the U.S. The U.S. propoganda machine has done its best to suppress him, and they certainly succeeded with 9/11. But he produces his movies in Europe and doesn't pander to Hollywood money. Those who revere him--and I certainly do--are waiting with baited breath to see how much this machine will try to suppress him.
There is a lot at stake and a lot of very very powerful people in at least two countries will try to do so.

There is no point in making a movie about "Bush the person".

Stone is missing the target, once again.

If he wants to explain how a person totally unfit for the office of the presidency comes to take the office then that would be fine and a good warning of what we can expect in a Hilary presidency.

Bush didn't have a clue which is why we had 9/11 and 9/11 traumatized Bush like 9/11 would traumatize a man too small for the office of the presidency. That explains why we invaded Iraq for no good reason.

Unfortunately Stone takes the approach that there is a "person" there. The personna of Bush doesn't matter, Oliver. It would be an interesting persona if you were making a film about a fraternity at Yale. Maybe that is what you are doing.

Isn't going after Bush a little like going after Kaiser Bill in 1939. The new threat to freedom is form the left and putting the USA into wars in Darfur and Myanmar. We need a new "Wall Street" but this time with Swiss Bankers buying influence with Arab money and Chinese manufacturing corporations buying and closing US plants. Maybe the new agricultural challenge foreshadowed by the
garlic dumping story, or the bankrupt apple farmers in Seattle from Chinese factory farms...
..........NAFTA we did not Hafta!!

Yea, we could call it "The Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight II"....or maybe "Executive Priviledge".... or ....

the one thing I don't want to see is some effort to humanize the asshole like Stone did with "Nixon".... Bush is an idiot and the entire film could be made without him even being in it... it could focus entirely on Cheney and Rove and Bush could be a voice on the phone or behind a door and the movie would still work...
