AP:

Yahoo is planning to lay off hundreds of employees in an effort to increase its profitability, prop up its deflated stock price and narrow the focus of its sprawling Internet portal to a smaller number of key areas, people close to the company said Monday.

This will continue as ALL companies attempt to maintain their inflated stock. They seek to strengthen a consumer economy be creating less people able to consume; ironic isn't it. At this rate soon none of us will have jobs.

What irony. The link to the Yahoo story leads to a NY times article posted to, what else, Yahoo Finance.

I was surprised to find out that Yahoo has 14,000 employees. I don't know what the hell they all do, since I have never figured out exactly what anyone really needs Yahoo for anyway.

Grim news for us in the Bay Area. And if technology companies are catching cold, the rest of economy must be catching pneumonia.
