The nasty spat between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama last night sure created fireworks, but after the debate attention turned to an offstage encounter, between Clinton and former Sen. John Edwards.

According to eyewitnesses, they both walked out of their green rooms after the debate and agreed to talk, then went behind closed doors in Edwards green room.

They probably just had a beer and a chat. I can't imagine them running together. I can see Obama and Edwards, but Hillary and Edwards - no way!

It appears that we are not focused on the electibility of the candidates. Why are we spending time on small time childish play. Its as if one asked "are you my friend?" and then depending on the ans, will the candidates talk nicely about the other. Eds and Clinton need to grow up also jmccain. It appears they didn't listen to their advisors and they aren't listening to the voters either. Being truthful, reliable, sane and capable of making sound decisions re the unresolved issues that are suppressing America is serious business. We need someone who comprehends this for America's sake, not just a free ride to the WH.

This is all like, really, very simple.

John Edwards, with Obama as his VP candidate, can win 270+ electoral votes. Where Hillary loses purple states because she is so disliked, and Obama loses purple states due to the Bradley effect--because in those states we're only talking 1 or 2 percent--John Edwards can win.

He has no interest in the VP slot again. That's being tagged with the "always a bridesmaid, never a bride" reputation. Americans really don't respect runners-up.

Obama is young and can wait. Give him a term or two as the VP, a natural step in the ladder, and 4 or 8 years from now, he's a natural inheritor of the presidency. His choice now is to run and probably lose, or throw his vote to Edwards at the convention and look forward to a natural succession to the Presidency thereafter.

Nor should people feel bad if Hillary rolls up some vote totals in the primaries. Remember that a full third of the delegates needed to win are superdelegates. These are the party leaders and the office holders. They want to win. They will be watching very carefully to see how divisive it is between HIllary and Obama. At the end, they may well decide that Edwards makes the most sense as a compromise candidate, even if (with their current votes) Hillary has a majority.

Supertuesday is critical. If Hillary rolls over everyone, then it's all over. That will be good for her and alright for the party, because there will be five months to reconcile before the convention.

But if Hillary and Obama take about 40/40 leaving Edwards 20, then Edwards is not only not out of it, but, with the increasing vitriol of the other two campaigns, will more and more look like the only candidate who can actually keep the party together and lead it to victory in the general election.

People finally get to hear John Edwards speak and he goes up 15 points in 2 days. They get to hear Obama and Clinton fight and those two drop 4 and 12 respectively.

Perhaps Hillary wanted to have a meeting of the minds. Edwards (Edwards '16) might like to be VP, if he and Hillary can come to terms. The precedent of a strong VP has become common place in the Bush administration. Fortunately Edwards is a nice guy and gregarious person, completely unlike Cheney, the war mongering hermit crab or recluse spider!

The Democratic candidates will eventually coalesce to beat the Republican scourge, the Dems message and policy is way superior to the Neo-con nightmare continuation spouted by their candidates. Infighting and reguritating MSM dustups and mischaratizations only bodes well for the Republicans. That said I believe half the posters here are trolls trying their damndest to destroy any Democrat. Please don't help them or trust them.

Barack Obama's only qualification for being an African American is the fact that his father was an African. But his father was not even an American citizen.

The qualification for an African American must be reviewed, so that it will not be abused for political reasons.

Martin Luther King, III, is actually addressing the fact that his father's legacy is beeing abused and misused by political upstarts such as Barack Obama.

I am 100% Black and Bold African and I do not lump bi-racial people with blacks and I will only accept someone as African American if the he or she is the son or daughhter of an African American.
Barack Obama is not the son of an African American. His father was an African who was not African American. Therefore, Barack Obama is not an African American, but a Kenyan American.

The Politics of Color has be defined, because we have not been brave enough to address the realities of the truth.

Bi-racial is not black.
If one of the parents is white or Asian, the person is not black.

I am disturbed by how little attention the topic of economic justice has received during this campaign. I want to challenge all candidates to follow your lead, and speak up loudly and forcefully on the issue of economic justice in America.

From our conversation yesterday, I know this is personal for you. I know you know what it means to come from nothing. I know you know what it means to get the opportunities you need to build a better life. And, I know you know that injustice is alive and well in America, because millions of people will never get the same opportunities you had.

I believe that now, more than ever, we need a leader who wakes up every morning with the knowledge of that injustice in the forefront of their minds, and who knows that when we commit ourselves to a cause as a nation, we can make major strides in our own lifetimes. My father was not driven by an illusory vision of a perfect society. He was driven by the certain knowledge that when people of good faith and strong principles commit to making things better, we can change hearts, we can change minds, and we can change lives.

So, I urge you: keep going. Ignore the pundits, who think this is a horserace, not a fight for justice. My dad was a fighter. As a friend and a believer in my father's words that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, I say to you: keep going. Keep fighting. My father would be proud.

Sincerely,

Martin L. King, III

The Honorable John R. Edwards
410 Market Street
Suite 400
Chapel Hill, NC 27516

Dear Senator Edwards:

It was good meeting with you yesterday and discussing my father's legacy. On the day when the nation will honor my father, I wanted to follow up with a personal note.

There has been, and will continue to be, a lot of back and forth in the political arena over my father's legacy. It is a commentary on the breadth and depth of his impact that so many people want to claim his legacy. I am concerned that we do not blur the lines and obscure the truth about what he stood for: speaking up for justice for those who have no voice.

I appreciate that on the major issues of health care, the environment, and the economy, you have framed the issues for what they are - a struggle for justice. And, you have almost single-handedly made poverty an issue in this election.

You know as well as anyone that the 37 million people living in poverty have no voice in our system. They don't have lobbyists in Washington and they don't get to go to lunch with members of Congress. Speaking up for them is not politically convenient. But, it is the right thing to do.

adc, you mocked "whitey trying to keep da black man down, yassa yassa"...you pathetic little man that is not intelligent nor is it funny. And so you know..."whitey" can't keep anyone down, they have tried but does not work. Whitey is not you, and the enemy to the black man, historically was always the poor white trash. The slaves lived better than they did. They were the ones doing most of the hangings and illegal murders, in the dark of night, and burning crosses..now pathetic, then you "mock" things by saying what you did. You brainless little maggot, that is offensive to a lot of people. You need to watch what you say, or a group of us will get you kicked off for offensiveness.
