New York Observer To Endorse Obama

The New York Observer has endorsed Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for the upcoming Feb. 5 Democratic primary, The Huffington Post has learned. The Observer writes that the fact that he has "risen too quickly for his opponents' taste" is "nothing less than a recommendation."

Below is an excerpt of the Observer's endorsement, that hit the paper's Web site this morning.

Obama for America:
We Back Barack in Democratic Primary
Yes, He's Transformative And Restorative as Well

The New York Observer urges New York Democrats to support Mr. Obama in the state's presidential primary on Feb. 5.

New Yorkers might ask why they should not pull a lever for our junior senator, Hillary Rodham Clinton. While Mrs. Clinton is an extraordinary United States senator for New York, we believe that Mr. Obama can be a great president for the United States of America.

Most of the other candidates have absorbed, assimilated or appropriated Mr. Obama's issue of change.

But a great deal of the argument for Mr. Obama's candidacy is about one great issue in American life: Restoring American democracy.

It is difficult to remember the last national candidate who has charged and jazzed the democratic system as Mr. Obama has. Partly as a result of his candidacy, college campuses have remembered why they are proud of the United States, kids are going door to door, runners are handing out leaflets on weekends, racial lines have been culturally melted and the electoral approach to presidential campaigning has been reborn.

And, as more than one commentator has said, America is being reintroduced to the world.

Mr. Obama stands the best chance of restoring the essential relationship between power and the American people. He is not flanked and blocked by an existing, entrenched power structure; his words are not muddied by layers of handlers; he still says what he means.

Mr. Obama would also be the most formidable Democrat in the general election. He has demonstrated a capacity to energize young people and attract new voters, and is the only candidate in the Democratic Party who attracts independents, who are the fastest-growing part of the electorate. His refusal to demonize the Republican Party as a right-wing attack machine will appeal to those independents as well as moderate Republicans.

As far as experience goes, when George W. Bush was driving a bleary, shocked nation into war with bait-and-switch deceptions in 2003, where was our experienced leadership? Meanwhile, in the west, an Illinois state senator-who has since served two years in the Senate, the same Congressional period that a fellow Midwesterner, Abraham Lincoln, had served when he sought the presidency-rose to exhibit courage and public judgment on that deceptive adventure, stating, "I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars."

Now we have paid the price many times over, and there are no clear paths in Baghdad. But there may be one in Washington. Mr. Obama is the emblem of a new America.

He has risen too quickly for his opponents' taste; that fact is nothing less than a recommendation.

His relationship to truth and plain speaking and public transparency is the first step toward reviving democracy in the United States of America.

Barack Obama of Illinois is the future. New York's Democrats should embrace him.

This is messy.... hasn't been so messy since the Carter-Kennedy thing in 1980--- if it keeps up the new Reagan will be John McCain

The country as i envision it with the Clintons:
Depressed Americans going back to business as usual,
the rest of the world pointing and laughing at us,
HRC says one thing, Bill Clintons goes on camera to use Gorge Bush rhetoric and ratchets up the anti -
oh well, same old Clinton drama.

Black man's view on what Mrs. Clinton and her campaign are doing.

Firstly, both Hillary and Bill are NOT racists... but what they're doing is far worse. They are alluding to and interjecting race into this election to discredit and marginalize Senator Obama from getting the white vote.

The sad thing is, it doesn't hurt Mr. Obama as much as it hurts the African-American community.

Mrs. Clinton: Please, can you just leave us alone. We don't want your money, your support, or ANYTHING. The blacks here don't expect the government to do anything for them. All that we request is that you do not make a freak show out of us to further your political aims.

I voted early and voted for Obama. My husband voted for Hillary. After last nights debate and the way Bill and Hillary are conducting themselves, I will not vote for her in November. She is turning off me and others who would have rallied behind her if she were the eventual nominee. I can't imagine what black voters must be thinking of the Clintons right now. If she gets the nomination, she wont get my vote. I have had enough of both of the Clintons.

Let's write the Democratic Party and ask them to demand cleaner political tactics from the Clintons. They have gone too far
Use this link and use this message, or write your own message, just ask to shut them up.
Write to the Democratic Party at this address.

Ask Bill Clinton to behave as a gentleman, to campaign for his wife defending her position and her philosophy, but to do it as is expected of him, as is expected from a former u. S. President. Tell him to lower his tone, and his anger. He is making us think that he relishes power and will do anything to get it back, perhaps to avenge the alleged offenses inflicted to him.
Remind him that all he did during his presidency and all he has done for the disadvantaged of the world is being damaged by his total lack of respect for all democrats and the American people.

Nice slap in the face of Hillary and Bill.
However the endorsement is very true of Obama.
It will go nicely with the endorsement of SC biggest paper, the state.

What's amazing is how Obama continues to pull in high-profile endorsements from all spheres--foreign and domestic--and the haters refuse to extend one sliver of credit. All these people/leaders,institutions have all been duped by the hype. Some of you haters have to be on the Clinton dole. As it makes no sense that a sane individual would make negative comments on every article on HP concerning Obama. So if you are getting paid, you're definitely not dogging it, though most of your comments manifest a woeful lack of writing skills and seriously flawed logic.

Everyone's projecting messianic qualities on Obama. I'm completely mystified. I don't see it.

Politicians who would distort Senator Obama's Iraq War stance for their own political gain should not be allowed back in the oval office. When will the American electorate rise up and reject the return of gutter politics and other risky behaviors in the oval office? Now is the time to end the deviant, divisive politics on the Iraq War issue. Now is the time to close the chapter on this War and end the political careers of those who would exploit this war for their own political gain. Elect Barack Obama President!

Obama is way hotter than any other politician out there. Bill Clinton is old. So is his running mate, Hillary.

This is a real slap in the face to Hillary. She shouldn't have voted for the war. Bad judgement, worse than that, it was made on politics. Would look good on her resume when she ran for president.

The New York Observer was right on. Only Senator Obama can lead this country in a new direction. It sure as hell isn't Billary.

What a blow to Hillary! I guess they know her too well. They are right on, Obama is the only candidate that can help restore America and keep it great.

If this continues, Democrats will not only win the White House, they will win more seats in the House and Senate. Republicans might as well face it - they blew their chance for CHANGE the past 14 years. By the way. Please note that they had CONTROL of EVERYTHING, Passed everything they WANTED passed - yet for some reason they couldn't STOP abortion - their one BIG issue during EVERY CAMPAIGN....Hm'mmm, makes you wonder if they really WANT to STOP it? What would be their issue then? Sure as heck isn't SPENDING.
