This Saturday's South Carolina primary could make or break Barack Obama's presidential aspirations. The Illinois Senator was interviewed by phone on Monday by Beliefnet politics editor Dan Gilgoff....

..."The prayer that I tell myself every night is a fairly simple one: I ask in the name of Jesus Christ that my sins are forgiven, that my family is protected and that I am an instrument of God's will. I'm constantly trying to align myself to what I think he calls on me to do. And sometimes you hear it strongly and sometimes that voice is more muted.

In terms of on the political trail, I don't find it challenging to be respectful and courteous to people, including my political opponents. You know, the Golden Rule still applies in politics."

Can't the country go from Southern Baptist back to that old time Northeastern (actually Jewish, courtesy of Jesus) religion where your religion was between you and God?

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Matthew 6:5-6

And when you do pray in your room, don't rush to tell the world about it, he might have added. I understand that he wants to counteract the smear about his being a closet Muslim, but all he has to say is that he's not a Muslim - he doesn't need to go on ad infinitum about his Christian credentials, unless he's pandering. That goes for any other candidate who yammers on about his/her "faith."

Has it crossed minds that hillary asked John to speak privately, that he was curious to know what she wanted. John won that debate. Very stragic on his part. Not getting involved in their immature bickering. Calling them squabling children. The only one to talk issues.
Seems to me hillary is pushing Obama's buttons, and he is taking the bate.
hillary is a cold, rude, hard bitch.
I have always said "She will do anything to get this nomination; beg, borrow, steal, fall down break her leg, maybe cry..."
She is a master at twisting the truth. This is about her own personal, ego drivin reasons. NOT what she can do for the people, but what she wants, when she wants it. Never trust this shrue. I have always had nothing but respect for Bill Clinton, but now he has stouped to her low level.
John Edwards has always been my first choice, since 2004. I want these corporations taken down, as does he. I beleive John has the experience, strenght, and is our best hope to bring about their fitting and proper demise.

What sick, sick people insulting a man for praying in his time of need.

Even as he asks for tolerance for the unbelievers in his speeches, in return you insult him for doing nothing more than practicing his faith.

South Carolina, the last state Obama will win.

All it took was a bit of thrashing from the Clintons and he's calling on Jesus.

Oh Crap...the last thing we need is another Bush-like religious nut in the white house who was sent by God to become president

It’s 2 minutes to midnight for Obama.

Pandering to religious black voters might help him win the upcoming South Carolina primary, but the clock running out on this creepy pol.

Good riddance.

If he is praying for anything it should be that his "slumlord" friend Tony Rezko, indicted by the Feds, doesn't rat him out for anything. Google the name "Tony Rezko" and go down to the bottom of the page to read mydd.com , direct democracy, written by the truthteller. This was written today and had at least 100 pages, including letters Obama wrote that enabled Tony Rezko to obtain $850,000 in Gov't loans and a million other links between Obama and Tony Rezko, great stuff, please take a look

When you inject God into the race, then you are truly desperate. It is succumbing to the formula that the GOP has used since 1980. I don't want that.

Edwards for President. Now more than ever.

Not sure I understand the backlash. The guy has been the target of a pretty large smear campaign. He's saying the same things there he said back in 2006:

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/faith/

From his keynote then:

"For one, they need to understand the critical role that the separation of church and state has played in preserving not only our democracy, but the robustness of our religious practice. Folks tend to forget that during our founding, it wasn't the atheists or the civil libertarians who were the most effective champions of the First Amendment. It was the persecuted minorities..."

Sick to death of poiticians wearing their religion on their sleeve. Get back to separation of church (tend your faith in private) and state.

Just what we need, another W, hearing the voice of God. Now that the primary in SC is upon us, BO is proclaiming his deep faith in Jesus and even has a pamphlet out which declares him a "committed Christian." If this isn't the lowest form of pandering to the Christian Right, I don't know what is. I want a president for all - not a president for the "Committed Christians" of this country. A fundamental principle of our nation is the separation of church and state. Based upon his recent comments and his pamphlet as well as history of voting "Present" for votes pertaining to reproductive privacy, I believe BO cannot separate out his personal beliefs from his law-making responsibilities. No thanks!
