Thinkprogress.org:

In the past few months, conservatives such as Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) have been quick to declare victory in Iraq. In November, McCain said that "we've succeeded militarily." A day later, Lieberman declared that "we are winning" because "we have made progress" in "one of the most remarkable turnarounds in modern military history."

Gen. David Petraeus, however, appeared on NBC this morning and rebutted the declarations of mission accomplished and said that he'll need at least another Friedman Unit before he can make a judgment:

We think we won't know that we've reached a turning point until we're six months past it. We have repeatedly said that there is no lights at the end of the tunnel that we're seeing. We're certainly not dancing in the end zone or anything like that.

Well, I'm going to go sit in my Brett Favre recliner where I'll snuggle up with a beer and my Brett Favre blanket, and then off to my Brett Favre bed with Brett Favre sheets and covers along with a picture of Brett under my pillow.

Something none of my previous five wives would allow which is why they're gone.

Study: False statements preceded war 52 minutes ago

A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The study concluded that the statements "were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses."

The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism. White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said he could not comment on the study because he had not seen it.

The study counted 935 false statements in the two-year period. It found that in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to al-Qaida or both...

David Petraeus is a giant-sized girly man compared to Brett Favre.

Favre knows how to lead a team to victory by himself. Petraeus only knows how to take orders from a Andover Girly Man Cheerleader.

Petraeus isn't man enough to scrub a dub dub Favre's jockstrap.

I thought that the success criteria for the surge were supposed to tell us whether or not we "can see a light at the end of the tunnel".

Now, since the surge failed and our allies are withdrawing and the troubles are just shifting around we are supposed to give it all more time.

I don't buy it.

We set standards and they are telling us that we need to pull back.

Geezus, four years later and we still can't drive through Bagdhad, drive to the Baghdad airport.... enough is enough.

We are in a recession for crying out loud. We need the money spent on fucking off in Iraq for Cheney's business buddies to do things for our own country... like pay of the Chinese for all the money we borrowed to have these wars to begin with...

Just Another Six Months...

In their testimony today, General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker made a bid for more time to stay the course in Iraq. They offered hope that with another six months there could be tangible political progress, but were tight-lipped about how long a successful outcome would actually take, or in the words of Senator Hagel, how much American blood and treasure it would require.

That was on September 11, 2007 that Ptraeus wanted six months.

Bush will have no qualms whatsoever about handing this scam war and bankrupt country over to someone else and then go fuck something else up again at someone else's expense.

He's done nothing different his entire life. And he's never been held accountable -- which is the biggest tragedy of all.

Give me just a little more time
And our love will surely grow
Give me just a little more time

I hated that song the first time I heard it, and I hate it more when Petraeus sings it.

Iraq: US blames Al-Qaeda for its own actions

Baghdad's al-Sarafiya Bridge allegedly blown up by remote-controlled explosives, was in fact destroyed by a US warplane, a new report says.

A video taken on a cellphone indicates that a US F-16 dropped a 'five-hundred-pounder' on the bridge in April. ....................

Why not ask for nine more months? What's so magical about six months?

Weird. They must have focus grouped six months.

From the Senate hearing held last year:
--------------------
SEN. WARNER: Are you able to say at this time, if we continue what you have laid before the Congress here as a strategy, do you feel that that is making America safer?
GEN. PETRAEUS: Sir, I believe that this is indeed the best course of action to achieve our objectives in Iraq.

SEN. WARNER: Does that make America safer?

GEN. PETRAEUS: Sir, I don't know actually. I have not sat down and sorted out in my own mind.

------------------

The lying General hasn't sorted it out? Is that possible that any sane person has not though about it?

He doesn't know?

Or he was simply lying because he didn't want to say what we know to be the truth?

And, so, if it is not making us safer, then why in the hell are we paying for this fraud?

And why are we getting our soldiers killed and wounded?
