White Separatists Protest MLK Day In Jena

About 50 white separatists protested the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Monday in this tiny town, which was thrust into the spotlight months ago by 20,000 demonstrators who claimed prosecutors discriminated against blacks.

Police separated participants in the "pro-majority" rally organized by the Learned, Miss.-based Nationalist Movement from a racially mixed group of about 100 counter-demonstrators outside the LaSalle Parish Courthouse. There was no violence and one arrest, a counter-demonstrator.

I remember when the nooses were hung on a tree in a high school that some black kids sat under. And on the TV, all these white citizens from Jena said, there's no racism here. You're coming into a community that doesn't judge people by their color. Those kids that hung the nooses didn't even know what the historical context of those were. Another proud moment for America!

This event only highlights the vacuum of white so-called legitimate leadership which should have confronted this group and the messages that they preach. As noted in this thread, it seems typical to wish them to disappear or rail against showing that they exist.

After the rancid racial history here in America, it is clear that such tactics are dull and do not address the underlying racism that stills boils below the surface in some citizens. It will take a concerted effort to face race and racial relations in America, not hide from its reality and believe that such is the method for ridding ourselves of its reality.

Sadly, there are thousands more of our 'good' citizens who hold these same views, who were not out marching in stead, and this is unfortunately the real pity of America, the media and its political leaders to provide solutions to the continuing hate.

I see their sign reads "No King Over Us". I wonder, do they believe in that American King of Kings, Jesus Christ? It is sad that the civil rights movement has been reduced to defending the rights of a street gang to beat someone up. One think that drove Thurgood Marshall nuts was people used his civil rights wins in court to get into white snobby country clubs. Fight to get your brother a job, an education a home in a nice neighborhood. Let him into a union, not a country club. Stop his job from going to China.
