Defying a veto threat from President Bush, the House of Representatives voted Thursday to prohibit waterboarding and other harsh interrogation methods used by the Central Intelligence Agency against high-level prisoners from Al Qaeda.

The 222-to-199 vote, largely along party lines, sends the legislation to the Senate, where passage is less certain. The measure, part of the intelligence authorization bill, would restrict all American interrogators to techniques included in the Army Field Manual, which prohibits the use of physical force.

Of course the GOPERS are for torture, they have been torturing the US for the past seven + years. Let's waterboard each one who voted yes they want torture, then afterwards we will see if they still vote the same.

The depths to which the Republicans have sunk is truly amazing. Their claim to the moral high ground remains an exercise in abject hypocrisy. Add to this the corruption, lies and arrogance and you have a full picture of the decay that's rotting this country.

Republiscums FALSELY CLAIM to be the more religious and righteous, yet THEIR HYPOCRISY does not let them really understand the Golden Rule, or Jesus' admonition to 'Love thy neighbor as thyself', and it is exposed here for ALL to see.

If they were volunteered to test THEIR THEORY that waterboarding is NOT torture, we KNOW the LIARS would be singing a different tune.

Republicans seem to believe in torture and militarism along with deregulation of financial institutions. With the loss of manufacturing jobs except for military weapons systems and aircraft, it appears that America is preparing for an empire. But our debt structure is such that we can't afford it. The neocons are an enterprise similar to Enron, just one big fraudulent scheme.

Chalmers Johnson exposes this at the Nation. His online article at TomDispatch and elsewhere is a continuation for at least 40 years of experience in oversight. The American beast has painted itself into a corner. No amount of war can bail us out. Johnson's trilogy of books from Blowback to Nemesis is a must-read.

There is no need for this bill. Waterboarding is already defined as torture. By passing this kind of bill it essentially gives cover to the people that were committing the crime because they can say it wasn't illegal when they did it.

Whay should be done is a Bill Of Impeachment ddrawn up against Bush & Cheney for High Crimes and then Bush should be turned over for trial as a war criminal.

International Law already forbids torture.

How curious that a government which once hung Nazis for similar crimes at Nuremberg now "can't decide if it's okay." So, since we seem to have magically reversed our position, don't we owe those families reparations and an apology?

Republicans approve of torture, nothing new here. Pass the bill in the Senate and let Georgie veto it while he blathers on about his frat days.
