Miers Contempt Economy

Politico:

House Democrats will postpone votes on criminal contempt citations against White House chief of staff Joshua Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers, while congressional leaders work with President Bush on a bipartisan stimulus package to fend off an economic downturn, according to party leaders and leadership aides.

Senior Democrats have decided that holding a controversial vote on the contempt citations, which have already been approved by the House Judiciary Committee as part of its investigation into the firing of nine U.S. attorneys, would "step on their message" of bipartisan unity in the midst of the stimulus package talks.

Of course they delayed it, they would not want to do anything to actually Bush's friends because the dems are in on the corruption.

Need I point out that any action the Congress takes against Miers, Gonzales, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Rice or any other BushCo criminal for that matter, will be rendered null and void by the inevitable PARDON that GWB will render before anything of value happens. You can rant and rave all you want about the inability of Congress to do anything substantial but in doing so you only highlight the fact that you are a political moron who has no understanding of the structure of US Government. Asking for a guilty vote of any sort now will only guarantee that they will not be held accountable. The current situation calls for some patience, which is a challenge in these days of politics as sport. Pelosi, Reid, and gang are not as stupid, shortsighted, or reckless, as you present them to be.

Of course the Democrats should be able to do more once BushCO is out of office, and the new president no longer extends executive privilege protections or the promise of pardons to the criminals. If nothing happens then, we'll have a reason to be angry.

You can't have a democracy without accountability of those in power. Obviously, congressional oversight is under attack by a president who once said that his job would be much easier if this country was a dictatorship. Maybe he was not joking. Congress should not back down one inch from its constitutional duty.

the Dems are skirting the biggest issue all the time . . . pelosi has to be made to put impeachment on the agenda . . . it has to happen now . . . but they seem content to play little games to make the public think they are doing something but the only thing they really appear to be doing successfully is letting the clock tick

This is really a non-story. All the people not covered by executive privilege have testified that there is simply nothing to this story. Bush did not order the firings for political reasons, and even if he did it would be perfectly legal. The only reason the democrats in congress are pushing the subpoenas is because they know that the president will not let this precedent be set and they want to make political points. This is a clear case of executive privilege and the president should not allow these people to testify.

Wow! What in the hell does one have to do with the other?

No wonder this country is in the shithole it's in. What a bunch of inept fools.

And where is the DLC on this?

Contempt is what the Democratic leadership deserves.

I have been a BIG D DEMOCRAT all my life. From the time my mother and father pointed out JFK and Caroline on the Cape in 1963 until today.

My grandmother was on the democratic town committee and my father was a union man. I've chaired union political action committees.

I am a Obama supporter.

But Obama, Clinton, Edwards or Dennis K. supporter I hope every democrat in this country gets ahold of their representative and gives them an ear full. The time for the lawlessness in Washington to come to an end.

This goes beyond party and into our commitment to our country as a representative democracy.

Time for the democratic leaders in congress to get up on their hind legs and stand for America as a land of laws.

When did the Democratic Leadship lost their spine? Speaker Pelosi should just switch parties. Could there be a bigger enabler?

It's like the Invasion of the Bodysnatchers! Where did Congress go? Who are these people running OUR government?

According to Pelosi, they are too busy to waste time on impeachment. What are they busy with? Seems to me like they aren't doing much of anything?

Does the anthrax attack or the office fires have something to do with Democratic lack of spine? Have they all been given offers they can't refuse? Curious minds want to know.

It can't be true or by now Wexler and Kucinich and Feingold would have had untimely accidents.

So why won't they do their jobs?

God forgive them. We won't, and our grand children won't either.
