From Ben Smith: Not sure what prompted this, but Al Gore has quietly released a video with a forceful endorsement of equal marriage rights for gays and lesbians. It pushes the Democratic establishment that much closer to a position he now shares with Eliot Spitzer and some other leading Dems, and is prompting a bit of grumbling in gay political circles that this batch of candidates aren't quite there.

"Gay men and women ought to have the same rights as heterosexual men and women -- to make contracts, to have hospital visiting rights, to join together in marriage, and I don't understand why it is considered by some people to be a threat to heterosexual marriage," he says on the video, which appears on his Current TV network. "Shouldn't we be promoting the kind of faithfulness and loyalty to ones partner regardless of sexual orientation?"

That quote about promoting faithfulness and loyalty should become Billary's mantra-- but it never will become a mantra-- it's not political expedient to say let's uphold the sanctity of marriage (which includes the faithfulness vow)--- because herein lies Billary's lack of credibility on this issue-- so, they'll probably keep their mouths shut and go the way of Huckabee on this one---

Yay for Gore. How nice it must be for him to be free of the political game, refreshing to be free to speak the truth. So many christians fear the truth even though their bible says it will sent them free. Obviously they fear freedom, especially the freedom of others.

I can't believe how fat he got! Isn't he aware of the many health problems directly resultant from weight gain, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, all types of cancers, degenerative bone disorders, arthritis - the list is extensive. The medical profession has proven that obesity is just as deadly as smoking 2 packs of cigarettes per day. His carbon footprint must have grown tenfold from his phenomenal weight gain, creating a massive amount of additional carbon dioxide into our already threatened atmosphere.
In his present physical state, he has become a major contributor to global warming.

Man, I wish he would get in the race, he would win by a landslide, and get Billary out of the picture. Wouldn't that just tick Billary off? Then they could leave Obama alone.

There is nothing morally wrong with promiscuity. Shame will not help us achieve lgbt liberation, and will hinder efforts to spread comprehensive sexual health education to the communities most at risk. While I applaud Gore for support LGBT rights, he needs to rethink his messaging.

This is the nice thing about having Gore in the private sector. He doesn't have to spend his time pandering to the fundies.

Every time I see some creepy public display of piety by our Presidential candidates it just pisses me off.

Barack Obama as a Christian is against Gay Marriage.
If you doubt me, go and ask him at the next debate.

Al Gore can produce another documentary and call it, "HOMOSEXUALITY: The Inconvenient Truth", "GAYS: The Changing Climate of Human Sexuality" or "GAYS: The Endangered Human Species".:)
Is there any Nobel Gay Prize for Al Gore?

Oh Al. remember in 2000 when as the incumbent VP YOU LOST? In the debates you did NOT support gay marraige. Just what the Dems need right now as both Hillary and Obama are shying away from the issue especially since it is such a volatile issue in the AA community . Along with his no show record on anything prograssive Obama will get nailed by this ? Oh and get over it libs, Al is not any more electable due to his junksciencefiction venture than he or Kerry were in their embarrassments previously. enjoy the company of Jimmy , the worst ever, and Yasser...in one stroke he has just disparaged gay rights through the election cycle

I can see it now--a Gore/Bloomburg ticket announced in June--Independent Voters like me would have an orgasm and we can kick some political butt and send real Americans to run the government and reconnect with the rest of the planet Earth before we destroy it with nuclear fallout from bombing Iran.

Y'know, I live in Massachusetts. I know two married gay couples, both couples now in late middle-age, both perfectly fine hard-working tax-paying Americans. As near as I can tell they have not brought about the collapse of civilization one whit, they haven't sullied any of the many MANY straight marriages around them. The institution of marriage seems to remain as moderately-healthy as ever. So what the was the hysterical right going on about again? I guess the hysterical right figures they're not 'free' unless they've got their boot on someone else's neck.

Great to hear from Al! The real news we want to hear though is his endorsement of Barack Obama so that we can send Billary out to pasture. That would be Al's crowning achievement
