John Edwards On Letterman
Former Senator John Edwards appeared on The Late Show, with David Letterman, last night, one day after the very heated Democratic debate in South Carolina. Letterman mentioned that the campaign had been going on for a long time, and asked Edwards if he was fatigued from it, and if such a lengthy campaign affected how the candidates all got along. Edwards stalled for a moment, and then made a joke about how we "can't stand each other."

Had it ended right there, the funny moment would simply have been one more in a long, grueling campaign. However, after smiling at his joke while the audience laughed, Edwards then gave an awkward shrug, as if to say there was nothing he could do about it. Edwards goes on to call Senators Obama and Clinton "good people," but the gesture sharpened what until then had been a harmless, late night quip.

Watch the video from The Late Show, with David Letterman, below, and tell HuffPost whether or not you think Edwards' joke had some real bite behind it.

Can't we just cut through the BS and rename this site the Obamington Post, already???

If you click on the politics page there are like 8 stories on Obama, mostly positive coverage, about half as much on the Clintons, almost all negative, and like one mention of Edwards. Don't let FAIR in here!

An Open Letter to Arianna Huffington:

From the start your blog has been an insightful and erudite addition to the national conversation on a wide and diverse array of subjects. Its non-partisanship despite a liberal progressive bent was hallmark. Your fairness covered the spectrum of commentary and opinion from the left, center and even the right, from both an American and international perspective. But sadly in the last year, beginning in last May, the Huffington Post has taken a more partisan position of favoring one candidate at the expense of the other viable candidates. If the mission of the Huffington Post to elect Obama President then you are doing a good job but at the expense of sacrificing what many believe the mission of this blog was intended to be.

Yours sincerely,

Charles Lemos
San Francisco, CA

People, if you really want to see John Edwards in this race to the White House, put your money where your mouth is. Go to his web site and give, give, give. If we all can donate even a little, we can help him stay in the campaign. He's not getting the kinds of big money donations that the other two have, so he really can benefit from every person who gives. No, I'm not an Edwards fund-raiser, but I want to see him stay in. I've already donated a little and I'm thinking of giving more if it will keep John fighting the good fight for America.

LOL!!!!!!!

I just watched the video.

Oh this is funny.

This story is not about the joke or the shrug.

HuffPost is trying to get us to believe that Edwards is making an a deal with Hillary.

Catch the end where he says he would take either Hillary or Obama for VP. Says they are both good choices.

Yeah. They can't come out with an article about this directly. No, they put this out to help people come up with this idea all by themselves. Right after the non-article about the secret meeting between them after the debate.

You guys at HuffPost need to try harder than this. We are a bit more alert after 7 years of this crap from Bush.

It was funny. It was Mick and Keef saying they can't stand each other after six months on the road.
Justify this charming, witty man with the current occupant, and weep for this country.

Well, ARIANNA, is YOUR head in the same "collective place" as the rest of MSM?
Are YOU reading this thread?
Are you starting to get the impression that maybe you and your "editors" should be A LOT MORE STREIGHT FOREWARD AND HONEST IN THE COVERAGE OF JOHN EDWARDS, or is it true that this blog has become "just another pile of YELLOW JOURNALISM" like the New York Post?

I think somebody is pissed that Edwards is not out of the race yet.

I like Obama, but damn, HuffPost isn't helping him by being assholes about John Edwards.

We all know that Larry's blog was ok'd from the top.

I think HuffPost is still feeling stung by all of the bitch slapping they recieved over it.

Guess what HuffPost. You are JUST a website.

Just another example of irresponsible media trying to make a story out of nothing and tell us how to think.

I hate to say it but I'm sick of all of them and can hardly listen to their raspy voices.

Are you kidding me? His shrug was part of the joke. Nice hatchet job though. It's obvious that's what your intention was.

It was a harmless joke for Pete's sake! He knew he was expected to be 'funny' on Letterman and this was the result. Considering how tired he must be and the magnifying glass that he's under - it was pretty good! I admire him tremendously... He's standing up very well...

Hardy Harr Harr. Oh boy, that Dave, he puts out the comedy, big time. BFD? This is front page, WHY? Letterman, sheesh.

You know the Obama people have to read criticism of their candidate into everyone's remarks.
