John Edwards On Letterman
Former Senator John Edwards appeared on The Late Show, with David Letterman, last night, one day after the very heated Democratic debate in South Carolina. Letterman mentioned that the campaign had been going on for a long time, and asked Edwards if he was fatigued from it, and if such a lengthy campaign affected how the candidates all got along. Edwards stalled for a moment, and then made a joke about how we "can't stand each other."

Had it ended right there, the funny moment would simply have been one more in a long, grueling campaign. However, after smiling at his joke while the audience laughed, Edwards then gave an awkward shrug, as if to say there was nothing he could do about it. Edwards goes on to call Senators Obama and Clinton "good people," but the gesture sharpened what until then had been a harmless, late night quip.

Watch the video from The Late Show, with David Letterman, below, and tell HuffPost whether or not you think Edwards' joke had some real bite behind it.

What are you doing? HOW did his good-natured shoulder-shrugging SHARPEN anything? What was "awkward" about his "there you are" gesture? That gesture meant, 'Hey, you are the one that asked me.'
Shouldn't commentators on the actions of public figures have some MINIMUM intelligence and ability to discern reality? Shouldn't they RUN for making pronouncements just for effect?
This "sharpening" is equivalent to the "scattering" of pills around the late Heath Ledger.

OF ALL THE STORIES ON EDWARDS, THIS IS THE BEST HUFFPOST CAN COME UP WITH? HE'S THE BEST CANDIDATE.

ARIANA LIED WHEN SHE SAID SHE DIDNT WANT TO MENTION WHO SHE WAS GOING TO SUPPORT BECAUSE SHE WAS COVERING EVERYONE. HAHA. YAH RIGHT. LIKE ITS NOT OBVIOUS.

Isn't this "story" just PREPOSTEROUS???

During the debate the other night, Edwards made the wonderful remark about "how is this squabbling helping a child get health insurance" and yet the MSM repeated the clip over and over about "aren't there 3 people in this race?" - making him look pathetic and needy - which he wasn't in the least.

Who put this foolish story up - and for what purpose? I agree with the writer above who said HuffPo is really beginning to stink.

Q: What do you think of Edwards' joke?

A: He's joking. The gesture is familiar-- he knows he's being funny or at least humorous. He also knows he's too sexy for his shirt, too sexy for his car, and definitely too sexy for his haircut. It's a guy thing. They ALL think they're cute.

Gotta love 'em.

It was John Edwards' best interview. Saying with a smile that the candidates don't like each other. And so it goes with the egos of politicians. I loved it when Edwards and Letterman mussed up each others hair. It was a fun interview! Hillary was on Tyra; I hear Edwards was on Tyra as well. Anybody have a link to the interview? :)

Edwards '08!

John Edwards gets a letter from Martin Luther King III praising his efforts for the working poor of America and asking him to lead the way for the other candidates. But all Huffington Post can put up is a silly video accompanied by comments that try to smear him. How disgusting.

I don't understand how a piece involving Edwards made it onto HuffPo -- where are the censors?

Edwards was great.

He was gracious when asked about John Kerry's support of Obama. He has acurately pointed out the plight of homeless vets. John Edwards' populist stance is continually co-opted by both HC and BO. His plan for a greener America will provide a new economy.

Wit, intelligence and humanity comes out whenever he speaks. The man who should be president - John Edwards 08!

Edwards is a great guy and looks better and better as Billary continues attacking Obama and driving the grudge match obsessed the media into a frenzy.

Shrug to the non-story. I thought he was great on Letterman. It reminded me that he'd been the first to fully capture my attention. Before the media presumptuously decided to leave him out of the equation.

Why the press has ignored this guy is a loss to the country's efforts to find the best person for the job, and see discussion of all sides of every issue. Edwards' remarks have been viable, and delivered in a straightforward manner I appreciate.

I can't stand Obama. So much?

Well, I'm going to vote third party if this turkey gets the nomination

I've never voted anything but democrat in my entire voting life.

Ever.

But I'm ready to break the mold

I will NOT go to my grave knowing I voted for this slimy guy.

I'm going to sleep soundly.

Go figure, HuffPo finding something wrong with Edwards' performance on Letterman. Shocker!

John Edwards is the only candidate that represents real change... and the only Democrat that consistanly wins every match up with the Republican competitors... C'mon HuffPo, give the guy a break!

Go John Go!! Edwards 08!
