Mitt Romney Traps

Politico:

Mitt Romney is struggling to survive the Republican primaries and caucuses. Even with his victories in Michigan and Nevada, Romney's candidacy remains fragile.

On paper, this is a surprise. Romney should have been thriving. As everyone likes to say, Romney has the greatest asset of all: He looks like a president. Romney is charismatic and intelligent. Mitt Romney is unquestionably the strongest candidate that the Republicans could nominate for the general election. If he does not get his party’s nomination it will be because the evangelical base of the Republican party are so blinded by their fanatical religious views that they will not support a Mormon. Religious intolerance is of course nothing new and no one should be surprised that after years of courting religious fanatics that religious intolerance is becoming a defining characteristic of the Republican Party. The only surprising thing is that the Republican elite are surprised at the strength of the religious fanatics.

Shallow analysis is why the Democrats will probably lose again in 2008. Mischaracterizing reality doesn't allow you to overcome.
