Bill Clinton's Old Politics Hurting Him

I write this more out of sadness than anger. Bill Clinton's ill-tempered and ill-founded attacks on Barack Obama are doing no credit to the former President, his legacy, or his wife's campaign. Nor are they helping the Democratic party. While it may be that all is fair in love, war, and politics, it's not fair - indeed, it's demeaning - for a former President to say things that are patently untrue (such as Obama's anti-war position is a "fairy tale") or to insinuate that Obama is injecting race into the race when the former President is himself doing it. Meanwhile, the attack ads being run in South Carolina by the Clinton camp which quote Obama as saying Republicans had all the ideas under Reagan, is disingenuous. For years, Bill Clinton and many other leading Democrats have made precisely the same point - that starting in the Reagan administration, Republicans put forth a range of new ideas while the Democrats sat on their hands. Many of these ideas were wrong-headed and dangerous, such as supply-side economics. But for too long Democrats failed counter with new ideas of their own; they wrongly assumed that the old Democratic positions and visions would be enough. Clinton's 1992 campaign - indeed, the entire "New Democratic" message of the 1990s - was premised on the importance of taking back the initiative from the Republicans and offering Americans a new set of ideas and principles. Now, sadly, we're witnessing a smear campaign against Obama that employs some of the worst aspects of the old politics.

I think Robert Reich stands for trying to bring out the best in people.

If Clinton ever stood for that, he gave it all up when he brought Dick Morris into the White House. Then it became win at any cost. Apparently, he still believes that.

When the 'right' went after the Clintons I felt I had to support them even though I didn't like alot of thier republican policies. Then when Bush started to wipe out the middle class the Clintons stood on the sidelines and did nothing.
Now I feel betrayed by the Clintons and I have no reason to stand up for them anymore.
I have found that I dislike them with a white hot passion. Keep up the Rove politics Bill!
I could care less about you now.

Now i often hear people say'
they played racial card with OBAMA ,
and made argument, that in IOWA he won lots of white support,
and if now white people dropping him
but AA people continie support him,
so they blame this on racism.
I would argue ,that people now got to know him better, and they dropping support, becouse there not much what to support,
and understandably people of color want him to succede,so they dropping him little slowlie.

I SAY,HE IS SINKING AND HE WILL SINK EVERYBODY ON TICKET WITH HIM.

He got to much of history, and not much of achivement

I am appalled by the the way both Clintons are behaving.

One of the latest is Senator Clinton's statement that she will seek to seat the delegates from Michigan and Florida. Not only did she not abide by the Party's rules but after running with the names of her two remaining opponents off the ballots she wants to use her delegate votes to obtain the votes that the Party disqualified. This may be a harbinger of how she considers rules and if President how she will consider laws. This is basically her first "signing statement."

Has it occurred to any of the Clinton supporters that having her as the nominee is a bad thing for the Dems in the General? And it has NOTHING to do with Obama or Edwards? The Republicans are in total disarray right now. They can't make up their minds about a front runner, their likely Veep nominee (Huckabee) wants to re-write the Constitution to reflect a narrow biblical viewpoint. Two of the three possible frontrunners are nowhere NEAR what the majority of Repubs want in a candidate, and yet, ask any pundit, political science expert, and registered Republican who would unite the Republicans as a complete whole, and who would slide close to 60-70% of the independent vote to the GOP, it's CLINTON! Do you really want to lose the White House that badly HRC supporters? Why would you want to get the GOP unified over anything? I say, nominate either Obama or Edwards and the GOP is doomed. Isn't that the goal? To WIN? HRC will galvanize the GOP in ways neither Kerry or Gore did COMBINED. They HATE this woman with the heat of a nova, why do you want them to have a united cause? Or are you more interested in the fight than the outcome?

Really, why do you want the GOP united against us? They are a shambles now, unless HRC is the nominee.

If Hillary wants to stand on her record and experience, then why won't she release them to the public for review?

Now the fun begins... strategy becomes clearer

Lets put this young uppity senator in his place.

Is he insane? Its not his time... He needs to get to the back of the line.... WE are the old elite guard of the democratic party.

Did we go too far??? Don't worry... theres a fix...

Offer him a VP slot; this way we'll get his supporters and newly registered voters, to get back on the... all about Clintons bus.
