Easter Eggs

Was going to war in Iraq worth it? According to Mike Huckabee, who faced this question at tonight's debate, the answer is "Oh, gosh, yes!" President Bush showed tremendous courage in the way he deceived, inveigled and obfuscated - lying to the nation about the threat Iraq posed, constantly conflating Saddam Hussein with the 9-11 terrorists, warning the nation with keening melodramatics about imminent threats and mushroom clouds at a time when the Iraqi military lacked the infrastructure to imminently threaten us with a fingerpainting of a mushroom or a cloud! It was all so brave and heroic!

And what about the whole whoopsie-daisy, look-at-that-wontcha, turned out there weren't no Weapons of Mass Duh in Iraq after all? Not a problem, says the Huck: "Now everybody can look back and say, 'Oh, well, we didn't find the weapons.' Doesn't mean they weren't there. Just because you didn't find every Easter egg didn't mean that it wasn't planted."

Really. Watch it for yourself.

Now, by now, you're of course wondering: "Doesn't this crazy "Easter Egg" idea provide the rationale to just invade anybody, anywhere in the world?" Of course it does! Remember, Huckabee's big problem with Bush is his "bunker" mentality, which he proposes replacing with his own, totally effing MENTAL mentality! Anyway, suck it, Easter Bunny! Mike Huckabee's Jesus and Chuck Norris are going to straight up ruin you!

I'll miss the Huck and Chuck show, whenever they run out of money and bluster that is.This asshattery would be hilarious if it weren't so earnestly serious.

Huckabee is going way way out on the crazy limb here, but then whoever the Rep. nominee becomes can backtrack to only "pretty crazy" and end up looking like some sort of moderate.

This is like Bush's "set the expectations so low that when I don't drool on myself, half the country thinks I'm a genius" technique.

While it's laughable here, it is also laying the groundwork for a continuation of the politics of fear that has served the Reps. so well as of late. Huckabee is serving a useful role for the more legitimate (bomb bomb Iran) Republicans by making himself look REALLY unhinged, so that they, by comparison, look almost sane.
