Bill Clinton just staged a passionate defense of his wife here, after a voter asked how Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton could unite this country when it is so split, politically and racially, and when she is such a polarizing figure.

The question unleashed an attack against the Republicans and an unusual assertion that Mr. Clinton had somehow escaped those attacks (has he forgotten so quickly?); he said he understood the right-wing bullies because he grew up with them. And he said that when they "didn't have me to kick around anymore," they went after his wife...

... He also said that Mrs. Clinton had worked with Republicans, including Senator Lindsay Graham, Republican of South Carolina.

And then he painted this scene: "She and John McCain are very close," he said. "They always laugh that if they wound up being the nominees of their party, it would be the most civilized election in American history and they're afraid they'd put the voters to sleep because they like and respect each other."

It looks like the Hillary goons are out in force all over these boards. My God, the gall of accusing Obama of dividing the party! WTF?? Are they serious? This is precisely why people are so frustrated about Bill, is that he turned everything on its head. He's amazing that way, but resembles the devil far too much in the telling.

Clinton and McCain -- harbingers of the apocalypse.

Civil or Not...

Has it occurred to any of the Clinton supporters that having her as the nominee is a bad thing for the Dems in the General? And it has NOTHING to do with Obama or Edwards? The Republicans are in total disarray right now. They can't make up their minds about a front runner, their likely Veep nominee (Huckabee) wants to re-write the Constitution to reflect a narrow biblical viewpoint. Two of the three possible frontrunners are nowhere NEAR what the majority of Repubs want in a candidate, and yet, ask any pundit, political science expert, and registered Republican who would unite the Republicans as a complete whole, and who would slide close to 60-70% of the independent vote to the GOP, it's CLINTON! Do you really want to lose the White House that badly HRC supporters? Why would you want to get the GOP unified over anything? I say, nominate either Obama or Edwards and the GOP is doomed. Isn't that the goal? To WIN? HRC will galvanize the GOP in ways neither Kerry or Gore did COMBINED. They HATE this woman with the heat of a nova, why do you want them to have a united cause? Or are you more interested in the fight than the outcome?

Really, why do you want the GOP united against us? They are a shambles now, unless HRC is the nominee.

McCain and Hillary will be so above it all.

The death, the maimed, the orphans, the costs.

How civil of them.

Not really. Eisenhower-Stevenson in 52 and 56. Those were fought on issues and not personalities.
But nothing tops the civility of the 1808 campaign between James Madison and Charles Pickney. Both were Southerners so slavery was not an issue the way it would be later. And Pickney almost worshiped Madison saying it was an honor to run against him. It was the biggest landslide in American history with Madison winning 64% of the vote. Not even FDR did that well.

But if the larger point is that we won't subjected to the lows of 2000 and 2004, yes you are probably right.

It is hard to fool a historian. We have long memories.

Bill means blacks are uncivilized. Riots, looting
and raping white women will ensure if Obama is the nominee. Was Bill wearing his white hood today?

So she's close to the guy that wants us to be in Iraq for 100 years, and sings "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran..."? Yea, nothing there worth getting upset about.

You know what this photo says to me? More of the same. Those of us wanting a change from Washington politics as usual, this photo screams loud and clear -- SAME OLE, SAME OLE.

Yeah, it is real funny.

Mr. Clinton. Mr. Clinton Mr. Clinton

He just will not let go t hat he is no longer a president.

ENOUGH. ENOUGH. ENOUGH.

Feminists on this board support Hillary. and B
ill for president. Do they also support McCain?

THIS IS ENOUGH.

Jeebus chreest. Go home Clintons. Wherever your home is. New Yawk or Arkansas or Kennebunkport WHERE YOU, BILL ARE considered LIKE A SON.

You both suck. And you both are destroying the Democratic party as a joint effort in order for Bill to have a third term. You don't care as long as you think you can do anything to stir the pot and divide this party and this nation. You are both slime. I don't like you and will never vote for you both.

ENOUGH. ENOUGH. ENOUGH.

Don't worry, says Bill, if you don't like our gutter-politics during the primary... it will all be over soon. I've gone from supporting Bill to actually disliking him. His campaigning for his wife ... or actually himself, is so distasteful. I can't imagine what 8 more years of the clinton/bush dynasty will do to this country. I know many of you will disagree, but just watching them bring Obama down to their level has been very discouraging to me, Let's move on, America.

That would be because they are the EXACT SAME!
There is NO DIFFERENCE between John McCain and Hillary Klinton

If the fight between obama and Hillary had been about gender instead of race, I might believe that somehow Hillary started this nightmare.
But instead, the race card was used to start the war, which is clearly to obama's advantage.
Talk about a low-life.
Obama is a divider, not a uniter.
Hillary has forgotten more about how to heal this nation than all the boys know today, black or white, young or old.
She's a warrior for us all.

Obama is running on the premise that he can unite the Democrats and the Republicans because he thinks he is so special.
However, how does he expect to accomplish this magical feat when he has already managed to divide the Democratic party right down the middle in a way that the Clintons never did.
If you can't unite your own party, obama, you will never unite the Democrats with the Republicans. You are dreaming a nice fairytale, devoid of any reality and if you mess up this election for Hillary, we are all going to be big losers.

Now that's funny. The implication here, of course, is that Obama's responsible for this messy primary.

I hope they keep him out on the trail. The embarrassment of his advocacy grows by the day.

Why aren't the Clintons running a civilized campaign now? They are as dirty as their lies.
