I don't watch Oprah. I don't like or dislike her.
I watched this video because Daniel Day Lewis is a magnificent actor, and the headline struck me as odd, with reference to him.
As far as Oprah's behavior goes I honestly got the impression that she went on and on, just when Daniel Day Lewis was on the verge of tears, and she was forcing the camera on herself to spare him the embarrassment of crying on camera.
Ofcourse, I could be wrong.
This was nothing remotely close to "breaking down". He sadly expressed his thoughts and feelings.
Who writes this shit?
Thank you Daniel. Your's is a sentiment held by millions of people around the world. This was a very beloved actor leaving this life far too soon.
That headline is complete bullshit, and I see Mr. Day-Lewis as a good man, who likely cared about it. Kudos to him for being a human being.
It's so bizarre how quickly people trash the guy for paying genuine tribute to a colleague.
Jerry MaGuire was right...a cynical world.
Oh my god! ENOUGH already! People die every fucking day! Some of them tragically, some of them little children, it's always too bad but that's life isn't it? This is faux mourning, how about all of us having a little more dignity?!
He's so sexy.
What a beautiful man. Gives me some hope for humanity.
Ye gods, talk about shameless self promotion. The Academy voters should throw their weight over to Johnny Depp after this, or maybe that's what Danny boy's aiming for.
I teach college students here in the midwest, far far from Hollywood, and many of them are expressing feelings of sorrow and despair triggered by this tragic death. Ledger's performances and persona moved many. If my normally somewhat apathetic students are grieving, then I find it quite appropriate for a fellow actor, DDL, to be so emotional. Oprah is very detached from her own feelings of grief, I think--her most recent issue of Oprah Magazine contains an editorial in which she describes "crying for 27 minutes" after learning about the child abuse going on in her school in Africa. I thought that was a weird and cold way of self-consciously assessing her own reactions--she is the ultimate narcissist.
Sad story for sure. Sleeping aides, other drugs while congested is a dicey mix. But aren't the doctors being a little complacent in dolling out the psyhco/therapy drugs to the celebrities. Granted these guys don't need an HMO so they go to whomever whenever but maybe celeb docs should take a little med history.
What about "Daniel Day Lewis expressed deep sorrow" upon hearing of Ledger's death? Yes, HuffPost, you ARE becoming a tad British tabloid.
Although it seemed as if Oprah was being insensitive to DDL's expression of condolenses, I truly think she was trying very hard to remain professional, and meant no disrespect to DDL's feelings and emotions. Death a very difficult matter to process. Each individual deals with the reality of death differently. It is the one inevitable truth we all face.DDL's sentiment was honest and heartfelt. He is truly one fine, talented and sensitive human being.
Heath Ledger was a rising star. He will be sorely missed. RIP.
Good on ya Daniel
You have always had my respect as an actor but more importantly as a fellow human being.
Britney Spears is having daily breakdowns, fueled by immaturity and drugs and too much too soon and not enough "boundries". And the immature, tabloid mentality of the MSM is hooked on drug of drama and disfunctional cripples who have everything, and can find no sober meaning to life.
Daniel Day Lewis was showing grief, and was aknowledging a fellow actor for his contributions and how much of a loss we all feel for Heath's early death.
The true breakdown is our way of looking at life, and the prorities that people obsess over, while ignoring the golden rule.
a real human being, something of which
Oprah is becoming less and less.
