Oprah aired an Oscar nominee special Thursday, including an interview with Daniel Day-Lewis. It seemed the interview was taped late Tuesday, hours after news broke that Heath Ledger had passed away. In the middle of trying to discuss his role in "There Will be Blood," Day-Lewis broke down and asked to say a few words about Ledger's death. He didn't know Ledger but, "I have an impression, a strong impression i would have liked him very much as a man if I had."

I am really taken aback at Oprah's response...she seems like she wasn't prepared to go off script or something. How strange...kind of cold, actually.

Class act. What a genuine human being Daniel Day-Lewis is. There needs to be a hell of a lot more just like him out there in the world. Maybe this rock would be a better place.

I will say I take issue with the headline though. What is it with the media today using exaggerated terms in headlines? Is the content of their work that empty that they must resort to mischaracterizing emotions? I wold hardly call this a "breakdown." It's just a very sincere reaction about such a terrible tragedy. Just like I wouldn't call any of the recent candidate reactions "blow-ups" or "anger" and any of the like. The fourth-estate is quickly becoming nothing more than a empty, vapid wasteland.

real good comeback, O, he's talking about the man and how he'll miss what could have been and you say we in the united states are waiting for autopsy reports? how tacky! the autopsy report should have no bearing on this horrible tragedy, and we also will miss him very much.

I've been a follower of Daniel Day-Lewis's career since I first saw him at the beginning of his film career in "My Beautiful Laundrette". What a lovely, classy man and a first rate actor. We are all grieving the untimely loss of Heath Ledger.

Is Keith Lewis STILL dead?
Hasn't it been three days already?
Does anybody else care?

Heath died too young for us and at the same time it was when he was supposed to. That his friend cried is nothing bad toward him as he is hurting for sure. We all feel the loss of such great talent but for those close who knew him it's a harder road to grieve.

It's interesting to see how uncomfortably robotic Winfrey is in reaction to Day-Lewis's deeply emotional response to Heath Ledger's death.

She's not prepared to discuss anything but the Oscars and wants Day-Lewis to remain on-task.
