Downloading Nancy

"Downloading Nancy" stars Maria Bello, Jason Patric, Amy Brenneman and Rufus Sewell.

Maria, one of my favorite actresses, plays Nancy. She hires a murderous pen pal on the Internet to come and kill her. (I think it's because she's depressed.)

While she's waiting to be offed by Patric, Nancy self-mutilates with a razor blade. She cuts herself all over the place. Not even her shrink, played by "Judging" Amy Brenneman, can talk her out of it. Nancy's husband, played by British theater star Sewell, has no luck either.

By the time Nancy meets up with Patric's Louis, she's cut herself to ribbons and bleeding all over.

When did I walk out, er, escape from the theater? At the point that Louis ties her up in bed. Bello, naked, squirms while Patric cuts her and has sex with her. You can't imagine all the distributors and journalists I ran into in the lobby. "One woman was crying when she left," a ticket taker told me.

You slay me.
Where but PuffPost can people try to make a case that a man cutting a girl with a razor while raping her is art but showing someone a baby ripped apart by an abortion is hateful? Classic liberal hypocrisy.

Sick, twisted, mysanthropic bollox.

What is wrong with people today that this kind of filth is called "entertainment".

Am I to guess the body count of this film is ONE person? Okay then. ONE terrible depraved death when stacked against the literal stack of corpses at Rambo's bloody hand is an exercise in restraint and sympathy.

I understand why this film is disturbing. Because the audience actually FEELS for this pathetic woman.

Movie violence has, over the years, lost its effect. Try to inject a little emotion into that violence and what else? the public rebels.

That doesn't make it a great movie, just different. I'll take different any time I can get it.

"Cutters", a slang term referring to a person who engages in self-mutilation, is far more common than most people know. Members of the psychiatric community posit that self-mutilators suffer from a blunting of, or complete inability to process emotional response. For "cutters", self-inflicted pain is the misguided and self-destructive mechanism they use to feel something. Anything. Even if it's only pain.

While "cutting" is only now being widely discussed within the mental health community, it is hardly a new phenomenon. Thirty years ago I knew one of my friends was engaging in it. She confided in me finally that she'd been molested as a child. She didn't understand what drove her to run a razor across her own arms and legs, all she knew is that the act of doing so made her feel better somehow.

My friend was 31 when she hung herself.

IMHO, this film, much like the act it depicts, might be trying to tell us something.

Most of you sound like right-wing fucktards, bellyaching about some film that 'offends" you. Quit trying to force your morals on me! Sounds like a film that makes a comment on sex and art, and it's violent and realistic. That's what progressivism is all about: opening up the culture to new ideas, even if you don't agree with them. If you don't like this film, go post at Free Republic!

The irony of art is, the message sent is often not the message heard.

Well, its obvious what the reviewer thinks about the flick. From the description, it doesn't sound like anything 99% of people would want to see.
However, it is hard to imagine Maria Bello, Rufus Sewell and Amy Brenneman lending their talents to something unless they thought it was worth their time.
Egad, the description in the blog gives me shivers. Yuck.

Sedum(b), it sounds ominously like you think FANTASTIC FOUR, TRANSFORMERS, and any of the dozens of teenage snuff flicks are better than DOWNLOADING NANCY.
I'll take DOWNLOADING any day over these "made for IQ 65" flicks. But perhaps you got upset at the idea of sex and fluids. Common American fears. Guns and killing are great stuff, but sex and fluids ... ewww.

Jason Patric is a moron. This is from first hand experience. A hack actor and complete buffoon who I giddily witnessed get his ass kicked by a "nobody" in a West L.A. bar after he tried to pull the "star" routine and cut in front of him. I'm not surprised the "Speed 2" "star" is steeping to this level of depravity. I say BOYCOTT everything this untalented buffoon ever does. And by the way, for all you ladies out there who think he's "dreamy". The guy is 5'7" if he's lucky and a complete schmuck. No wonder Turlington dropped his sorry ass.

*Needs Giant Robots in it. Avoid at all costs 'til Michael Bay has been given the master print(s) and allowed to edit said footage in. Then watch.
