WBBM-Ch. 2 (Chicago) has reported the death of their morning anchor, Randy Salerno.

According to WBBM, Salerno died in a snowmobile accident in Eagle River, Wisconsin, in which he was the passenger. The Vilas County (Wisconsin) Sheriff's Department has issued a statement saying, "Alcohol and speed are believed to be a factor in the crash." The Chicago Tribune reports that the accident took place around 11:30 pm last night.

Salerno anchored the Channel 2 morning news in Chicago alongside co-anchor Roseanne Tellez. Salenro also had a role in the 1996 film "Primal Fear," where he played a local WGN reporter. He is survived by his wife, Irene, and their three children.

"Alcohol and speed were involved". How stupid and inconsiderate. There comes a time in lie, when you get married and have children, when you should smarten up, check your priorities, and stop acting like a buffoon. You die, but those you leave behind are the ones that suffer. Some americans have too much time and money on their hands. I won't feel any sympathy for this egotistical jerk, it's not his life he ruined, it's his families.

And why do those of us who don't live in the Chicago metro area need to know this???
Tragedy, of course, but outside his market, he is just another death. Like the two people killed yesterday in sonoma county on rain slicked highways. Think Chicago cares about them?
Or is it because he was a tv talking head, thus far superior to us "civilians?"

I have never seen Salerno. I hope his alcohol related death on a 70 MPH snowmobile sends a message to the young. No matter how many lives you touch drinking and driving is a very dangerous combination. Now as his final statement, a bright young man is the subject of a blog with so much to live for. If you live on the edge, be prepared to pay the ultimate price

I am no fan of snowmobiles, but at least they have made a an effort to make them quieter over the years. That is more than you can say about Jet Skis (and Harleys) The latter two groups are killing their own sports.

Randy Salerno was a great newsman. He is 4 years younger then me, and we grew up in the same town. I moved away, but he was still living there when he died. I miss watching him on tv since I moved out of Chicago. He will be missed.

I live in a area that is so sparsely populated that snowmobilers from Minnesota come here to get away from the crowds.

This winter, even though we have plenty of snow, business is way down for the snowmobile shops, motels and restaurants because of the price of gas/diesel.

I'd guess that in the next couple of year snowshoeing and X-country skiing will be the big thing.

Tragic, I'm sorry to hear of it.

I sympathize with Randy's family for their loss, but news of his accident sent me to Google, where I entered "snowmobiling accidents."

Stories about Salerno's death appear first, but you'll be surprised at the many other entries that resport on similar and very recent accidents.

If have a suggestion for HuffPo. When posting one of these death notices/articles there is really no need to allow comments. It just gives the really cruel, mindless ones an opportunity to vent their disgusting, hurtful brain droppings.

Waaaa - Hypocrite...Waaa - Motor sports dangerous...People have private lives that do not have to correspond to the news that they are paid to read off the teleprompter, doesn't mean he had some sort of personal failing. And as far as talking shit about snowmobiles, well, taking a shower or pinching out a Grogan can be deadly. Everybody dies. Our manic preoccupation with safety attempts to obscure our ultimate end. I've certainly enjoyed flying on an ATV rushing past the trees at 70 miles an hour (usually fairly sobor, but that wouldn't save me), and some of the most exciting snowmobiling involved the ingestion of hallucinogenic substances and alcohol, although frozen lakes are best for that sort of yeehaaaing. Feel sorry perhaps for his wife and family, who have been deprived of his company, but don't feel sorry for him. It was probably a blast right up until that point where a tree or rock intervened, and the exit was probably quick and painless. And alcohol might not have had anything to do with it.

Alcohol and snowmobiles are always a deadly combination. Actually, snowmobiles are an accident waiting to happen anywhere, anytime.
