The Boston Globe reports:

Senator Edward M. Kennedy will endorse Barack Obama for president tomorrow, breaking his year-long neutrality to send a powerful signal of where the legendary Massachusetts Democrat sees the party going -- and who he thinks is best to lead it.

Kennedy confidantes told the Globe today that the Bay State's senior senator will appear with Obama and Kennedy's niece, Caroline Kennedy, at a morning rally at American University in Washington tomorrow to announce his support.

That will be a potentially significant boost for Obama as he heads into a series of critical primaries on Super Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Kennedy believes Obama can ``transcend race'' and bring unity to the country, a Kennedy associate told the Globe. Kennedy was also impressed by Obama's deep involvement last year in the bipartisan effort to craft legislation on immigration reform, a politically touchy subject the other presidential candidates avoided, the associate said.

The coveted endorsement is a huge blow to New York Senator Hillary Clinton, who is both a senatorial colleague and a friend of the Kennedy family. In a campaign where Clinton has trumpeted her experience over Obama's call for hope and change, the endorsement by one of the most experienced and respected Democrats in the Senate is a particularly dramatic coup for Obama.

The scoop was first reported by Time's Mark Halperin and confirmed by CNN. Suzanne Malveaux reported:

"This is really big and very big for Barack Obama. Senator Ted kennedy...is a giant in the party. A Clinton campaign source told me the Clinton campaign is in fact expecting it. Already a senior aide from the Clinton campaign reacting on the record to the news that they expect. 'They have been friends,' Senator Clinton and Kennedy, 'for a long time and Senator Clinton has a lot of respect for Senator Kennedy.' ... This is really kind of extraordinary when you think about the relationship between the Clintons and the Kennedys, the kind of personal relationship that the two have. Obviously this is a very big win for Barack Obama."

Kennedy is one of two potential superstar Dem endorsements -- the other being Al Gore. Read Halperin's report here. Caroline Kennedy, daughter of JFK, endorsed Obama in a Sunday New York Times op-ed titled "A President Like My Father."

Ben Smith reported earlier this week that the Clintons were concerned about Kennedy's endorsement and were making a full-court press:

I do know, however, that Hillaryland is worried: Two sources say she's directed a flood of calls the senator's way, with everyone from union leaders to his Massachusetts constituents scrambling to stop what Clinton's camp is worried could be an endorsement of Obama.

Is it just me, or do all the anti-Obama posts sound the same? "all talk, no action", "empty suit", "Obambi", "Hussein", etc. Some add a pro-Hillary line, some don't. It's almost as if there is a master list of about 20 different anti-Obama comments and the same jerk logs in under different names and posts the same shit.

For all those who say the Dems can't win this one, regardless of their nominee, because we'll be "divided" by an Obama or HRC candidacy (I haven't seen any statistical data to support that, btw), I have some questions:

Don't the Repubs have unity problems of their own?

Where will the fundies go if Mitt's the nominee?

Where will the corporatists go if campaign reformer McCain is the nominee?

And, (NO one in the media has dealt with this one yet!), what the hell are they going to do about Bush and Cheney? Will they just lock them up in a closet somewhere until November?

If there's a national crisis or emergency, will McCain or Romney take over in their place as "test-drive" presidents or will the nation be forced, once again, to suffer under their callous incompetence and greedy croneyism? If there's another disastrous hurricane, won't those pics of McCain partying with Bush during Katrina come back to haunt him? If there's a major economic downturn, won't the Democratic nominee remind everyone that Romney's trickle down crap is just Bush-enomics on steroids?

Here's the deal: Bush is going to stalk this election like Banquo's ghost in "Macbeth" (or like LBJ to Humphrey for those who like politically related analogies on....well...a political site). It's not going to be a pretty sight. And no one, I mean NO ONE, has talked about how the Repub nominee is going to deal with it.

For all those posters predicting doom and gloom for the dems after the Teddy endorsement of Obama, chew on THAT for a while.....

I bet Obama promised Teddy a seat on the Supreme Court.

We all love and admire the Kennedy's...sadly they are once again proving that they are out to touch with mainstream America by backing a candidate who is all talk and no action. The fact is, despite SC. Hillary is still ahead in EVERY ST state except two (Georgia and Illinois)
And even the "Vegas Odds" have her still winning the nomination. Obama can get all the endorsements he wants, but last time I checked endorsements can't vote, people can...and we are voting for Hillary

I have blogged about this before, this is no longer a fight between Obama and Clinton, it's now become a fight between Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton for control of the Democratic party. From the look of things, Kennedy is winning for for some time now he's been funneling endorsement Obama's way with Clinton drilling dry holes (no pun intended).

Don't expect Bill Clinton to go down without a fight, even if he has to take the entire Democratic party down with him.

Here's a challenge:

Find me one page of comments here from any Obama story, that doesn't contain some mention of race by a supporter of the Empty Suit Orator.

Barry the Whiner and his naive little minions made this about race, and they continue to make it about race. And that is just another reason why they will lose on Super Tuesday.

Obama is new, fresh and bold. "Life rewards the bold!" NOT the "old." The Clintons were great in their time, but now they are of yesterday, and as the song says, "There's no 'yes' in yesterday..." It is time to move FORWARD people, not BACKWARD. Obama, '08!

I would love to see a woman in the white house - but this is not the right time for this particular woman, hillary clinton. Our government is at the peak of divisiveness, and bringing someone who carries so much distain from the right will not even make it to the table to deal with the right - they will do everything in their power to cause her to fail. We need better than that right now, and hillary just won't be able to get it done, not with her history and the baggage of bill, the co-president. It's time to move forward - and the partys are going to have to come together or the governmental stalemate will continue, and we'll be the ones paying the price. Like I said, I'd love to see a woman in the white house, but not Hillary.

And Caroline Kennedy has endorsed Obama has being more like her Father than Bill could ever Be.

And its a slap in the face of Hillary for saying to Obama, "You are no JFK." That endorsement will carry New York, California, where I live, for Obama.

Bill is so desperate to recapture the White House, he is absolutely going crazy. I know you said crazy like a fox, but I do think he is really going to lose his mind behind this campaign of trying to be President again.

This is a different time, bill and Hill had there time and they are starting to look OLD SCHOOL with all those OLD SCHOOL BLACK ENDORSEMENT. No one listens to the NAACP, Charlie Rangle, especially Bob Johnson, who sold out our young women on his BET. Magic Johnson who has slept with over 200 women, well I guess he would suppot Bill. They are all OLD SCHOOL.

Their Preachers cannot deliver any votes to the Clinton's either, People decide on their own. Bill is not our First Black President, can he get arrested, "DRIVING WHILE BLACK."

Ted was just doing what many politician do. Wait to see who looks like the winner, then choosing sides. Same thing they do when seeking bribes from corporations and capitalist. The one with the most to offer, gets the congressman. Rethugs do the same thing.

Breaking News: Obama Supporters Scuttle Hillary’s CTA Endorsement!
January 26, 2008 @ 3:27 PM

Score a big behind the scenes victory for Obama’s California campaign today. Word is leaking out that CTA’s membership staged an outright mutiny at Los Angeles’ Bonaventure Hotel and bucked its own Board’s attempt to railroad through an early endorsement for Hillary. CTA’s elites apparently got a big wake up call when their effort to crown Hillary as the official choice of California’s teachers was upended by overwhelming resistance from rank and file Obama supporters. The vaunted pre Feb 5th CTA endorsement – which was widely expected to go Clinton’s way – appears to now be postponed to April (when we will all be on the edge of our seats, I am sure).

The Hillary repudiation at CTA is more than just inside baseball. This could portend an erosion of support among powerful constituencies that are supposed to be the bedrock of Clinton’s California operation. Add this development with Obama’s superior California ground game, and a big bounce coming out of South Carolina, and he may have enough steam to pull off a victory in the Golden state.

Can anyone write a better script? 8 FUTURE years of national rehabilitation by a man named Barack Huessein Obama to remind G.W. Bush and his Neocons of the ABOMINATION of Iraq; the ABOMINATION of killing the leader that they put in power; the ABOMINATION of having Poppy bush and Donald Rumsfeld providing Saddam Huessein with the gas he used on the Kurds, the ABOMINATION of KATRINA down in NAWLENS, the ABOMINATION that the Constitution is “just a Goddamn piece of paper”, the ABOMINATION that Americans should be wire tapped on phones and personal computers, the ABOMINATION that the media that uses the peoples air waves are an arm of a paranoid government…….thank you, REPUBLICANS, for ALLOWING ALL OF AMERICA TO EMBRACE YOUR OBAMA….NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Politico.com is reporting that ...

"The Kennedy endorsement is likely to give Obama a lift among Hispanic voters because of Kennedy's passionate advocacy of immigration legislation. The Obama campaign, which lags far behind Clinton among Hispanic voters in national polls, is likely to prominently display the endorsements by both Kennedys in Latino communities.

"The disclosure also comes the same weekend that the House's highest-ranking Latino, California Rep. Xavier Becerra, also announced that he is backing Obama."

In addition, as I have posted elsewhere, Native Americans are increasingly rallying behind Obama.

"Indian Country Could Back Obama on Super Tuesday

New America Media
Ketaki Gokhale
Jan 24, 2008

"Editor's Note: Barack Obama is doing well with Native American voters, but - perhaps more significantly - the exciting race is having an empowering effect on Native communities across the country.

"Barack Obama is big in Indian Country ...

"He has ... somehow, managed to capture the imagination of Indian Country, say Native American commentators and community activists."

Then take African Americans, young people, unionized workers, political independents and independent-minded Republicans ... and you see America.

Politicians are more informed than we are, so if endorsement don't mean a thing, why do politicians seek endorsement? If endorsement don't mean a thing, why is Hillary Clinton getting the support of so many and why is she continuously seeking the endorsement of her husband.

The truth endorsements are the life blood of politics and the right endorsement could put a politician over the top. Many of our Senators and House Rep. owe their careers to the right endorsement and so do judges, who knows these guys without some meaningful endorsement of the party. As for presidential endorsements, Ted Kennedy endorsed John Kerry late in the Iowa caucus and Kerry went from poling 4% to winning the Iowa caucus, the rest is history.

The democratic party took note of Obama's win in a red state and are intrigued by the notion of Obama turning Red States into Blue States, Obama vote total was greater than the vote total of all the Republicans put together. The party is coming together under the umbrella of the Obama campaign and the party will seek to distance itself for the Clintons.
