The Boston Globe reports:

Senator Edward M. Kennedy will endorse Barack Obama for president tomorrow, breaking his year-long neutrality to send a powerful signal of where the legendary Massachusetts Democrat sees the party going -- and who he thinks is best to lead it.

Kennedy confidantes told the Globe today that the Bay State's senior senator will appear with Obama and Kennedy's niece, Caroline Kennedy, at a morning rally at American University in Washington tomorrow to announce his support.

That will be a potentially significant boost for Obama as he heads into a series of critical primaries on Super Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Kennedy believes Obama can ``transcend race'' and bring unity to the country, a Kennedy associate told the Globe. Kennedy was also impressed by Obama's deep involvement last year in the bipartisan effort to craft legislation on immigration reform, a politically touchy subject the other presidential candidates avoided, the associate said.

The coveted endorsement is a huge blow to New York Senator Hillary Clinton, who is both a senatorial colleague and a friend of the Kennedy family. In a campaign where Clinton has trumpeted her experience over Obama's call for hope and change, the endorsement by one of the most experienced and respected Democrats in the Senate is a particularly dramatic coup for Obama.

The scoop was first reported by Time's Mark Halperin and confirmed by CNN. Suzanne Malveaux reported:

"This is really big and very big for Barack Obama. Senator Ted kennedy...is a giant in the party. A Clinton campaign source told me the Clinton campaign is in fact expecting it. Already a senior aide from the Clinton campaign reacting on the record to the news that they expect. 'They have been friends,' Senator Clinton and Kennedy, 'for a long time and Senator Clinton has a lot of respect for Senator Kennedy.' ... This is really kind of extraordinary when you think about the relationship between the Clintons and the Kennedys, the kind of personal relationship that the two have. Obviously this is a very big win for Barack Obama."

Kennedy is one of two potential superstar Dem endorsements -- the other being Al Gore. Read Halperin's report here. Caroline Kennedy, daughter of JFK, endorsed Obama in a Sunday New York Times op-ed titled "A President Like My Father."

Ben Smith reported earlier this week that the Clintons were concerned about Kennedy's endorsement and were making a full-court press:

I do know, however, that Hillaryland is worried: Two sources say she's directed a flood of calls the senator's way, with everyone from union leaders to his Massachusetts constituents scrambling to stop what Clinton's camp is worried could be an endorsement of Obama.

I think that Ted should not have endorsed until we had a nominee. THIS PROVES TO ME WHAT MY HUSBAND HAS SAID FOR YEARS! "NO MATTER WHAT COLOR A MAN IS - IT IS A MAN'S WORLD!" SORRY LADIES. A level playing field would be nice. Ted was a coward - waiting until he was sure that BLACKS believed in OBAMA and then he endorses. What a coward!!! I will not change my vote and many of my friends are going to vote for Hillary on Super Tuesday in CT!

Load of crap endorsement. Not worth the toilet paper it is written on.

Most people now know that the entire Kennedy clan was [and is] filled with incompetents, criminals, drug users, philanderers, elitists, and con men.

It all started with Joe the Rumrunner. What a piece of work he was. E.g., one of his daughters, 23 year-old Rosemary was "moody" in his opinion. The solution, he had a quack doctor [who eventually lost his license to practice] perform a frontal lobotomy on her. Turned her into a vegetable.

And let's talk about Boozer Ted, Mr. Chappaquiddick, who was expelled from Harvard for cheating on an exam. But Rumrunner Joe [daddy] to the rescue, who had to pay off ["donate"] Harvard to get Ted reinstated a few years later.

We could go over all the other Kennedy scandals and evidence that proves there is no basis to be admiring the Kennedys and especially JFK, who used to bag women in the White House [and but for the times, where everyone would not talk about such things, he could have been impeached for that offense alone, by the standards the Repubs used against Clinton.]

I will never understand why so-called "liberals" are endorsing the most right leaning of the 3 candidates. My biggest gripe with Obama, aside from his lack of record and experience, is that he does not support unniversal health care. Doesn't anybody care about this issue? It's one of the greatest tragedies in America, so why is it agains that we are moving toward the right once again - "to transcend party lines? Good God. Hasn't anybody had enough of capitulating to the right? Is that really what people think is going to save this country?

This endorsement carries no weight with me. Certainly not compared to people like his niece, Caroline. But I am always happy to see the Democrats of old recognizing where our future lies.

Meanwhile, McCain is out starting another war, Romney is flip-flopping like a fish out of water, Schmuckabee is tearing up the Constitution cause Jesus told him to, and Rudina is getting his nails done. What a bunch of losers - this is what the once proud GOP has been brought to by Bu$hCo! Say goodbye, elephant.

Senator Kennedy's endorsement could not come at a better time or be more strategic in light of Super Tuesday. According to the Boston Globe:

Kennedy plans to campaign actively for Obama, an aide said, and will focus particularly among Hispanics and labor union members, who are important voting blocks in several Feb. 5 states, including California, New York, New Jersey, Arizona and New Mexico.

Thank you, Senator Kennedy.

Ted's endorsement I didn't find especially consequential.

Caroline Kennedy's op-ed endorsement of Obama in the NY Times was more interesting to me.

"I want a president who understands that his responsibility is to articulate a vision and encourage others to achieve it; who holds himself, and those around him, to the highest ethical standards; who appeals to the hopes of those who still believe in the American Dream, and those around the world who still believe in the American ideal; and who can lift our spirits, and make us believe again that our country needs every one of us to get involved.

I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president — not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans."

We are continually tempted to, and occasionally we think we have surrendered to, switching our support from Hillary to Obama. He is deeply moving and he could be the person that changes our country for the better. We feel a powerful emotional connection to him when we he speaks and it is that connection, that need to believe in something better that moves us so deeply and is truly compelling.

But then we remember who we are up against and the truth for us is that there is a battle for ideas being waged in our country. We are not convinced that Barack, with the baggage he carries (Rezko, cocaine use, "present" votes, saying that he will meet personally with the Pres of Iran) and his lack of experience, can win this battle in a general election.

The 527's hit Gore hard and destroyed Kerry. Barack needs to be able to hit hard and take a punch. If he hits hard, he undermines his message of hope and conciliation (and do we want conciliation with people who want to legislate our rights and manifest the failed ideas of the past 8 years?). We don't, at this point, know if he can take a punch or several for that matter. So he's in a bind; we are in a bind!

Hillary has taken every hit they can give her. Bill and Hillary are a known quantity. He is a sleezeball but he has tremendous political capital that will serve us well worldwide. She is the definition of Machiavellian and we share her ideas. The truth is that we have benefited from her passionate efforts to realize ideas that have helped all of us.

The right wing? They are Machiavellian. Presidential politics, national politics and world affairs demand Machiavellian skills, especially today.

So, we are waiting and watching. We will support Obama if he wins the nomination. If he wins the nomination he may be able to carry the momentum through the general election. For now, we are backing Hillary, with all of her human madness, drama, experience and cunning.

Has anyone seen or heard of a 527, Right Wing, grainy, black and white, slow motion ad showing Barack snorting lines of cocaine? The image grows dark as the camera zooms into one of his pupils and an image of him speaking to school children fills the screen with a foreboding voice-over saying: Barack Hussein Obama: Inspiring America's Children?

Is this true? I hope Barack can inoculate himself from what the swift boat producers have prepared for the general election. Maybe the Clinton's are doing us a favor by prepping him for these kinds of attacks.

The other ad is of Barack buying cocaine from a dealer in a dark alley. The ad is grainy and black and white. The scroll across the screen: "Barack Hussein Obama Preparing Himself to Lead the United States"

If these ads are proven to exist, Hillary should denounce them and Barack should challenge them to be shown! Let's not have another Kerry episode! We need to be united against these tactics! It was admirable for Barack to admit to taking Cocaine and it’s a testament to his inner strength that he was able to stop doing drugs on his own!

Now watch the Hllbot sore-losers, who chalked up Barack’s landslide across the board win in SC to voting based on race, turn on Ted Kennedy, and bash him in order to marginalize his endorsement of Sen. Obama. That is, after all, by their candidate’s own admission, “the fun part.

I've just heard from Sam Seder that Kennedy will announce his endorsement tomorrow.

It would be better for all the candidates to eschew such endorsements. If you’re the candidate of change how can Kerry and Kennedy endorsing you help? No different if Romney were garnering the G. W. Bush/Dick Cheney endorsement. The current strain of politicians on both sides are a cancer. I’d prefer a Romney/Obama race to at least provide some freshness beyond our mutually exclusive partisan idiocy.

$$$ Well, since Ted Kennedy is directly listed at Obama's HOPEFUND PAC, this endorsement doesn't surprise anyone. Hillary is also listed, but it's not Hillary's PAC. Isn't it funny that the majority of Obama endorsers who are politicians are ALSO directly listed at Obama's hypefund PAC. $$$

Heh, McCain is speaking about health reform. He wants the sports stars to go around to the schools and persuade the kids to get fit.

How are the poor kids going to do that when their parents can only afford the most terribly non-nutritious fattening foods. Proper nutrition isn't affordable for many of these folks.

These Republicans are entertaining in their horrible logic, they are actually funny to listen to.

THE MESSAGE IS CLEAR.....

HRC can gracefully withdraw from the race and now vigorously support OBAMA.

I’m sure other superdelegates are taking note. Denver should be very interesting this Summer. Go Obama go!
