I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Clay Aiken

Clay Aiken sat down with the new issue of New York Magazine to promote his run in Broadway's Spamalot. But Aiken ended up on a tangent about his personal life, saying he has no sex life and no desire. He has refused to talk about it in the past, and recently got in a spat with Newsweek when they tried to ask about it.

"Let's not fool ourselves," he says with his eyebrows up in his arch, queeny way. "The truth is? There are people like Justin Timberlake, males who are cool on radio right now, and then there's me. If I heard myself in a dance club? If I went into a dance club--which I never do--and I heard Clay Aiken come on, I'd roll my eyes and get out. But you know what? I'm fine with being kind of vanilla! It's oh-kye!" In his book, Aiken says that it's not just clubs but also bars he dislikes: "The only reason people go to bars is to get drunk and have sex. To me, bars are what hell is like."

He imagines his social life here will be "nonexistent, really. I'm not a nighttime person." He does not plan on dating, and he is not involved with anyone. "Heck, no," he says. "My dogs." He has never had a romantic relationship with anyone, unless you count the girls he took to dances back in high school in Raleigh. "I just don't have an interest in ... any of that at all. I have got too much on my plate," he says. "I'd rather focus on one thing and do that when I can devote time to it, and right now, I just don't have any desire."

But Aiken is 29 years old and he is also a human. Surely he must have needs. Urges. He contemplates this in silence for 20 or 30 seconds. "Ah think maybe I don't! I mean, not really. I've just kind of shut it off, maybe. Is that bad?"

I don't see why this is such a focal point for the media. He is very likely being completely honest - and his very slender and youthful appearance and skin (no acne or any sign of being familiar with the itch of a stubble) is typical of someone who has androgen deficiency. It is testosterone (in both men and women) which is the principal "sex drive" hormone, and those who for whatever reason don't produce much of it (or their bodies are insensitive to it due to problems with the androgen receptor) don't mature reproductively. They are as interested in sex as preteen boys who run away from girls with cooties.

Why give attention to this marginal celebrity who makes crappy music? The "gay or not" thing? That's even more boring than he is.

It's only a matter of time until we see him arrested in a public bathroom, public park or tap tap tapping his feet at the airport.

It's understandable when good looking male singers decide not to come out and alienate their female audience but what's his excuse???

I don't think those old ladies loving his songs are gonna mind if he's a big queen.

I could care less about the guy's sexuality,or lack thereof.

His "music" sucks so badly it's created a vortex of suckitude, and that's all I really care about where he's concerned.

Poor Gaiken. He's tap dancing in a glass closet afraid to experience passion or suffer the wrath of his illiterate Bible-belt fans. Money doesn't keep you warm at night.

I think Miss Ariel took some huge liberties in how she edited that interview. I doubt that he is asexual so much as just too busy. He's not that old and many guys are just like him when they are ambitious and focused on a career. I doubt he's gay. He's just driven.

Before Clay Aiken has even claimed his homosexuality, he's taking a pass on relationships. Well done Clay! I've heard that they're replacing the critter next year on Groundhog Day with Clay Aiken, because he's more afraid of his shadow.

And now... on to the real insults and some foul language: Geez GEEZ GEEEEEEEEEZ!!!! Clay Aiken is a giant (ten-story tall) pussy. Why are we still subjected to his nervous, sex-denying blather? WHAT the FUCK is up with that heinous 1982 haircut? How can one human being withstand the intensity of so many spineless, nerdy decisions. He has to condense down into a black hole pretty soon.
