Obama's Stump Lines Echo Malcolm X

Carrie Budoff Brown noticed a rather off-message echo in Obama's stump speech last week, and writes that Obama added to his stump speech in South Carolina several lines that echoed a speech attributed to Malcolm X.

"They're trying to bamboozle you," Obama said for the first time Wednesday in Sumter, S.C., to a predominantly African American crowd while refuting e-mails falsely identifying him as a Muslim. "Don't let people turn you around because they're just making stuff up. That's what they do. They try to bamboozle you, hoodwink you."

Um. When he says "Yes We Can!" I hear that old Pointer Sisters song in the background. Which I originally had on vinyl, then on CD and now on my iPod. He really should use that song in his campaign. It's uplifting in the same kind of way.

I am an Edwards supporter. Huffpo, using this article with a title that links Obama to Malcom X was a just cheap shot. I thought you had more class than that. This kind of thing only acts to associate you with either racist or neoliberal elements in our party.

Bill Clinton references Jesse Jackson in an Obama win. Both Jesse Jackson and Obama win the S.C. primary ( I believe when Jackson win it was not a primary??) Anyway, Bill Clinton was vilified as a racist. HOw so? The media (becasue they can kill two birds with one stone and continue their WE HATE BILL meme from the 90's will proping up OBAMA for the general election kill by the repubs) reads everything into Bill's statement and said that by refering to Jackson, Obama is being marginized as a "black" candidate. The media was either projecting or they were reading a few months ahead in the repubs script to win the White HOuse again from the LOSER (willing to threw the only Democratic President in the last 32 years under a bus for the New Kid on the Block) Democrats.
Obama uses the phrasing of Malcolm X ( who by all accounts was not what you would call a UNITER and was a card carrying proud MUSLIM) to a black audience about a white candidate and he is not taken to task by the media or his supporters (heck no his supporters are providing cover for him, sounds eerily familiar like the cover provided to Bush during and after the run up to the War). Even the repubs remain silent...HMMMM! I guess it is too early for the repubs to speak on the subject ...but they will.
All the Obama supporters on this thread and others commenting and marginalizing the Obama's Malcolm X parroting, are not doing the democratic party any favors.

OK, so I'm a damned redneck. You don't have to listen to me. But I'd rather have Malcolm X as president than HRC or any other representative of the self chosen Elite screwing America and using us to screw the world. Barak Obama is on message with the kind of Americans the world used to love, the kind that represented their values of human dignity, freedom, honesty, fairness and justice for all.
If that is not what you want, vote for HRC or any other Republican. But don't come around lying about values, about freedom, about spirituality, or anything but bigotry, greed, and hegemony.
I love the words Barak Hussein Obama speaks. I believe him honest. I know he will change our image, and if he gets the right help in his government, he will change us substantially. Malcolm X was an electrifying speaker, the shining black prince who still inspires people around the world. People who fear him without understanding him really do need to read Alex Haley's Autobiography of Malcolm X.

It's odd how these tropes are being trotted out to racialize the the primaries, when really if you look at it from beyond the US, Jesse Jackson and Malcolm X are universally respected figures.

More Clinton campaign smear! Will HuffPost stop taking the bait and making something out of nothing to inflame races.

If using the word "bamboozled" to describe another candidate lying about your record is going to be used to portray him as the "black candidate" as Bill tried all week to convince Americans of this - that is just reprehensible.
