Smith Kennedy Obama
Senator Ted Kennedy, having endorsed Barack Obama for President, has begun his barnstorming on behalf of the candidate in earnest. This morning found Kennedy on CBS' The Early Show, where anchor Harry Smith, apparently lacking the wit or the wherewithal to pursue a more substantive line of questioning, took the opportunity to do a little whistling past the Kennedy family graveyard:

SMITH: When you see that enthusiasm though, and when you see the generational change that seems to be taking place before our eyes, does it make you at all fearful?

Naturally, Kennedy really didn't catch on to what Smith was driving at, and responded, "I think that what people are basically saying is that they want a new day and a new generation."

Lacking a more heavy-handed way of getting his point across, like, say, whipping out the Zapruder film or something, Smith delicately waded back into the matter of political assasination:

SMITH: I just...ahhh--I think what I was trying to say is, sometimes agents of change end up being targets, as you well know, and that was why I was asking if you were at all fearful of that.

Kennedy elected not to speculate on the matter, for once demonstrating that the repetition of campaign talking points can help to paper over a host of media sins.

Obama previously addressed the matter of personal security in an interview with Brian Williams in early January, saying, "I think that every presidential candidate, certainly every president these days-- is a potential target. And that comes with the job. And you take the precautions that are necessary and then you go about your business."

That CBS jerkoff should be arrested by the Secret Service, for insinuating assasination towards a Presidential canidate.

What is it with the folks at CBS. It's bad enough they have clueless teleprompter readers like Katie Couric and now this? Next we'll have idiot in the media suggesting that we shouldn't elect Obama President cause he's likely to be killed.

Kennedy perfectly understood Smith's real question the first time -- Smith wasn't being THAT subtle -- Kennedy just chose not to answer it. Smith knew that -- which is what makes his asking it the second time all the more boorish and cheap.

Harry Smith is another empty headed coward in the msm. They couldn't ask a relevant question if their lives depended on it.

There is nothing outlandish about hinting at an assassination attempt on Obama should become President. One, they are a possibility for every President and Obama would not be different in that regard. However, should an attempt be made, it would not be because he is JFK incarnate. If someone tries to assassinate Obama it will for one of two reasons; one,the assassin is a run of the mill whackjob like Hinkley (Reagan) or Fromme (Ford) or two, it will be a rightwing political extremist of the white spremacist flavor.

They'll let any f***-head say anything he or she wants on television any more. I'll stick to The Internet where there's really never been any rules.

This is ridiculous. Every significant politician is a target so it's a moot point.

Kennedy, wisely, doesn't take the bait. That took alot of composure.

It's not bizarre at all for Smith to hint or even ask outright such a question. It's strange that Kennedy wouldn't be forthright. If Ron Paul were elected, there's no way the owners of the country would let him live.

That's got to be a new moral low. Imagine asking a guy who lost two brothers to assassination to comment on political figures as targets.

This lack of basic humanity and decency on the part of Harry Smith is way too meta in the cruelest possible way.

Did he have a senior moment and forget who Teddy Kennedy's brothers were?

This country has sunk to unimaginable amoral depths.

Ted, and all of us, had a horrible loss with the assassinations of his two brothers, to say nothing of MLK Jr, Malcom X... It's absolutely no wonder he doesn't care to discuss it in such a forum.

There is, however, a great risk that George isn't done yet. Frankly, I think he probably has his eyes on something bigger than an assassination of _one_ person. I hope I'm wrong, but it's not irrational to recognize the threat Bush and his administration is to our nation and the world. He already (recently) tried to fool us about the incident in the gulf of Hormuz... What we as a nation think and do about such a turn of events is something I hope we never have to face again. (Justice was never done and the truth never revealed in the cases I cited above.)

What an ass Harry Smith is.
I hate television news.

Toxic...all of it is toxic.....

I used to be around people who would blurt out whatever crossed their mind.......but I would think by the time you're Harry's age you'd be above that bullshit.

One can't help but be worried...we've seen it all before in technicolor. I just hope that the Secret Service is doing their job, and doing it well.
