Guantanamo Detainee Lawyers Endorse Obama

Boston Globe's Political Intelligence:

More than 80 volunteer lawyers for Guantanamo Bay detainees today endorsed Illinois Senator Barack Obama's presidential bid.

The attorneys said in a joint statement that they believed Obama was the best choice to roll back the Bush-Cheney administration's detention policies in the war on terrorism and thereby to "restore the rule of law, demonstrate our commitment to human rights, and repair our reputation in the world community." The attorneys are representing the detainees in habeas corpus lawsuits, which are efforts to get individual hearings before federal judges in order to challenge the basis for their indefinite imprisonment without trial.

I want a president of the United States to make a committment to the people of the United States. Period.

It makes me sick to see all these candidates jumping through hoops about how much they love Israel. To the tune of how many billions of dollars of my money per year?

I've got an idea. We're broke. Let's stop sending money to Israel. Somebody explain to me again why it is I'm paying for health care for the Israeli citizens, when U.S. citizens go without? And why is it that my tax money is given to new residents of Israel to use in getting an apartment? No one ever gave me money when I moved anywhere.

This whole thing is obscene. This Congress or one in the future is going to be called to task on this biggest scam between Israel and the politicians. Our pols vote to give billions of dollars to Israel. Israel takes a percentage off the top, launders it, sends it back into the U.S. by means of various bullshit groups, who give that money back to the politicians. It's all corrupt. It's theft of my money and it needs to stop.

As far as someone sending an e-mail to Jewish Americans telling them Obama is a Muslim and was sworn in on a Koran? Apparently this is a lie.

But just for the minute, ask yourself how would it work if an e-mail was sent out about a Jewish politician, and the e-mail said that the politician refused to be sworn in on the bible, and insisted on using the Torah instead. Wouldn't the e-mail be offensive as clearly designed to stir up religious hatred? Are Jewish Americans that stupid or intolerant that they would not vote for someone who was a Muslim?

Choose a team. If you're an American, then that's where your loyalty lies. I do not want a president pledging allegiance to Israel, to Mexico, or to Ireland. We're Americans. Let's cut the duel-loyalty bullshit and start taking care of our own people.

I had really caught Obama-mania am really crazy about him. But Jeez, doesn't anybody in the Democratic party have the common decency to stand up for the Palestinians in their plight? Those who live in Gaza are the victims of collective punishment meted out by their Israeli masters.

Actually, his pastor is a supporter of Farrakhan and a member of the Nation of Islam. Pastor Wright is a known anti-semite and admitted racist. He married Obama and Michelle and prayed with Obama when he made his decision to run for President. Obama has not disavowed him.

Obama has shown continued allegiance to a man who preaches racial exclusiveness, the superiority of black values over white middle-class values, and whose teaching contains anti-Israel diatribes. All these are sharply at variance with what Obama himself preaches on the campaign trail.
