Response To The State Of The Union

If you haven't watched it yet, President Bush's final State of the Union address Monday night focused on *SPOILER ALERT* the economy and the war in Iraq. The speech itself was fairly predictable, coming down hard on controversial topics like "terror" and the dreaded "earmarks" while offering up plenty of vague non-action on things like energy policy, education and securing the borders.

Bush's parting speech was a perfect chance for the Democrats to hit back and provide a harsh but necessary criticism of the past seven years. Instead, they sent out Stepford Governor Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, who in the spirit of bipartisanship urged the president to "join us" and "get to work." Unfortunately, by then the president was already in his jammies and sound asleep.

In light of such a lackluster Democratic response, we've decided to register a few of our own reactions to some of the president's State of the Union declarations.
