Mukesh Ambani

What would you do if your net worth were $22 billion? If you were Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani, you might build yourself the world's most expensive home. As designed by Chicago architecture firm Perkins + Will, the in-progress glass-tower is estimated at $1 billion and is known to feature, at the least, a health club, multiple "safe" rooms, 3 helipads, 168 parking spaces and require 600 servants to maintain, and physically, the structure stands at 27 stories, or 570 feet tall.

According to the Mumbai Mirror, the tower will also contain:

Floor for car maintenance Sources said the Ambanis would prefer to have all their cars serviced and maintained at an in-house service centre. This centre will be set up on the seventh floor.

Entertainment floor
The eighth floor will have an entertainment centre comprising a mini-theatre with a seating capacity of 50.

Balconies with gardens
The rooftop of the mini-theatre will serve as a garden, and immediately above that, three more balconies with terrace gardens will be independent floors.

The 'health' floors
While the ninth floor will a 'refuge' floor -- meant to be used for rescue in emergencies -- two floors above that will be set aside for 'health.' One of these will have facilities for athletics and a swimming pool, while the other will have a health club complete with the latest gym equipment.

Family
The four floors at the top, that will provide a view of the Arabian Sea and a superb view of the city's skyline, will be for Mukesh, his wife Neeta, their three children and Mukesh's mother Kokilaben.

Air space floor
According to the plan, two floors above the family's residence will be set aside as maintenance areas, and on top of that will be an "air space floor," which will act as a control room for helicopters landing on the helipad above.

Watch a video of the tower's progress here:

We celebrate such piggishness as this (the above posts illustrate that to perfection), and celebrate the insanity surrounding it.

This idiocy--a $1 billion home, for those of you cognitively challenged--is almost James Bondesque in its silliness. And it deserves the same silly end.

That this man is indifferent to his countrymen's overall squalor isn't surprising either: most rich men (and women) have no conscience to wrestle with.

One of the floors is designated for personal car service. That looks ridiculous to me. It seems to be emanating from thinking that outside service will not be safe. See how fear follows richness.

Yup it's really kinda stupid, but then again the elites of India are indifferent to the squalor around them. At least in this country at Hearst Castle there was a large amount of land that came with it went it became a state park and same could be said for Ted Turners property, but I guess that sorta mentality doesn't occur very much in India, it's more like "Look at me I'm rich and I want the poor to know it and to know they aren't".

Lighten up. Tata Motors is buying Land Rover and Jaguar from Ford. India educates more scientists and engineers per capita than any other country. We have been sending them our jobs for years now. There is burgeoning wealth being created, albeit a little hard to see among so many poor, but it is happening nevertheless.

All things global will come to India and no amount of pseudo leftists carping will turn the tide.

I say this as a design professional who will soon build there and has never voted for a republican in my life. I have been radicalized since 1968, am anti-war and a social critic, and consequently less successful than some colleagues. Anyway, a billion only buys half a Vegas Casino these days.

All that said, I think he should stay off his balconies - or buy and secure all the surrounding property for a radius of about a mile.

Cheers,

I think this is a great idea as it promotes the vertical development of urban areas and encorporates a nice use of surface for garden and landscaped to emulate a natural space. Farms and greenhouses would be a nice neighbor for a billionaire, insuring his produce was fresh and local, farmers markets, cultural pavillions. This seems like a good thing for me, or could be if it's created with some foresight inn mind and our billionaire seems to possess at least some talent for that. I'm looking forward to more fortune ennobled richistanians following suite in even more environmentally innovative concepts.
Did I mention "greenhouses"?

Ugliest new house on the planet - Perkins + Wills suck (at lest on this one).

At first I thought I was looking at a stack of books, but alas, it's a $1 billion house in an economically developing country. Even the Sultan of Brunei doesn't have such a weird sense of aesthetics.

Husband "Hi honey, where in the house are you?"

Wife: " I'm in level 5, section C28.396 taking the escalatior on my way to kitchen #38 with employee #573 where I think I left my purse #12,388 with wallet #233 with $3,640,256 in cash" I'll be in our master bedroon in about 5 hours - where will you be by then, my love?"

Husband: "Sorry hon, I'm taking chopper #9 on helipad #3 to fly down to the lobby..."

Is this really neccessary? Tis is the age of expansion. Nothing is big enough. Watched "Life after People" on the History Channel last week, very humbling concept. Everything built today will be reclaimed in 100 years if humans disappeared tomorrow including the billion dollar home. What a waste of money.

He is most fortunate to incarnate under such an auspicious sign.

As for the beggars, why worry about those who aren't worth 10 lakh??

With all that poverty around, this sounds too extravagant and ostentatious. Does this Ambani person give generously to charity?

What on earth for? Just because he can? How ridiculous.

For that kind of money I personally have preferred something that was, at the very least, attractive to look at.

This is the new India. The poor are invisible, while the rich are celebrated as the new gods.

What the Mughals and British couldn't do to India, globalization will -- destroy its soul.

Its interesting to read all the commie a-holes here pontificate.

Ambani, was born poor and became one of the richest dude in the world..not by cheating and robbing..but by building wealth the good old way... by building and Industrial empire by competing with the world.

He is a winner in every respect!

He builds this "monstrsity" but there would be 1000's who would benefit from this project

The left liberals can't get past Mother Theresa...like these a-holes have the gumption to do one day good work of Mother Theresa!

Get a life ...leftie dip wads!
