Conservative Punditry "Beside Themselves" About Potential McCain Nomination

Certain conservative opinion makers are not pleased.

Rush Limbaugh, Hugh Hewitt, much of the roster at the National Review and many (but certainly not all) of their more conservative talk radio and blogger colleagues are beside themselves at the prospect that one of the Republican contenders they deemed to be "not conservative" might be nominated. As Mike Huckabee won Iowa, John McCain took South Carolina and Fred Thompson bestirred himself to draft a note withdrawing from the race, the fretting has intensified. How could the voters reject their advice?

There are a few explanations the dismayed conservative punditocracy might use to explain their apparent disconnect with Republican voters.

One is that the electorate has not rejected their advice about what constitutes an unacceptable candidate. Voters are simply rejecting the flawed candidates who were poor standard-bearers for conservatism. This scenario seems eminently reasonable given that the pundits' favored contenders were in fact so terribly hobbled by their own shortcomings.

If he's beside himself, he could do a "two gasbags and a cup" video!

I guess they better get use to it, as it'll be McCain or someone further to the left as in Democrat.

The dubbing of McCain as not conservative enough was a tactical move to garner him more support from swingers.

Someone should tell these guys that the GOP nomination is inconsequential anyway, since we're taking the WH back come November 5.

looking at the picture of the bald rush limbaugh and thinking of another rush appearing "beside himself" reminded me of an old joke which seems appropriate for rush in particular:

said to the two bald rushes: "hey, why don't you two guys put your heads together and make an ass out of yourself?"

Rush have his undies in a bunch, too bad, I guess it shows he doesn't carry the effect anymore he once had.

If talk show hosts are nervous, then this means Senator McCain is doing the right thing.

The hard right pundits must feel pretty impotent these days, all their mud-slingling and flag waving is going largely unnoticed by the outer world. Then again, judging by Limbaugh's 'prescription meds' he should be used to impotence by now.

Good. I hope the more strident advocates in the Democratic party do not engage in the same kind of self-destructive behavior.

Do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Save your fire for the GOP.

The reason the economy is where it is today is because of the tax cuts Bush and the GOP have pushed through.

The system was working before Bush took office. There was a surplus when the GOP took control of the country. That money could and should have go to rebuilding the countries infrastructure. Instead it was given to the richest of rich in America. The rich say they shouldn't have to pay taxes because they hire people to work for them. The GOP gave tax breaks to the rich so they could hire more people. Has this happened? Has the tax breaks resulted in more jobs now than when Bush took office? NO. These policies have resulted is a failing economy. Why?

The way our economy works is the middle class keeps everything rolling. When there is an over abundance of jobs the middle class spends. What creates jobs? When the rich are taxed they spend to keep from having to pay taxes. They spend more on their business to reduce profit in order to receive tax breaks. This spending creates jobs. When middle class workers are not afraid they will lose their jobs or that if they do there are plenty of other jobs to be had then they spend. This spending keeps the economy rolling along and good.

What happens when the rich receive tax cuts is that they reduce spending because they no longer need to do so to keep form having to pay taxes. They lay off workers, down size, outsourced, what ever it takes to maximize profit because they know they will not be taxed for it. Instead of putting that money back into the business they put it into the bank. When this happens the middle class is now trapped. They loose jobs and become wage slaves who have to put up with unreasonable demands in order to keep their jobs because there are 10 people in line to do the same job. The middle stops spending and starts saving. When this happens the economy slows, then falters, and then dies.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Sorry, but "lol" just doesn't cut it. If there's anything good about McCain, it's how much Rush and his ilk hate him. Yes!

Bon appétit, wingnut media slugs... yours is a lion's share of the credit for stirring the sediment at the bottom of the political septic tank over the past decade, ultimately -- and ironically -- bringing McCain to the surface (if only because of the even more cartoonish and odious alternatives).

When McCain is shot down (excuse the reference), you're all taking the plunge with him. You'll be trolling local lawn care services for advertising, and your ratings will be computable on an abacus.

Ain't life a bitch?

I was a Republican before it was taken over by televangelists. Before it changed its conservative fiscal policy to a borrow and spend one. Before it grew government more then any Democrat. Before it stopped guarding the border of the US and started guarding borders in the Middle East. Before it became faster to tell you how to live your life then the Democrats. Rush is a pseudo conservative. He and Hannity are just shills.
