Madonna is the richest woman in music.

The 49-year-old entertainer leads Forbes.com's list of the top 20 "Cash Queens of Music," earning $72 million between June 2006 and June 2007.

The pop star's "Confessions" world tour pulled in $260 million, Forbes said. She also made money from album sales, her fashion line with H&M and a deal with NBC to broadcast her concert performance at London's Wembley Stadium.

Forbes.com said it compiled the list by examining concert grosses, merchandising revenue, album sales and other revenue from clothing lines, fragrance deals and endorsements.

Barbra Streisand is No. 2 with $60 million, thanks to her comeback tour of North America and Europe.

Celine Dion ranks third with $45 million, largely from her successful "A New Day" show in Las Vegas, which she wrapped up in December after a five-year engagement at Caesars Palace.

Shakira is fourth with $38 million, followed by Beyonce ($27 million), Gwen Stefani ($26 million), Christina Aguilera ($20 million), Faith Hill ($19 million), the Dixie Chicks ($18 million) and Mariah Carey ($13 million).

Hilary Duff, Avril Lavigne and Martina McBride each banked $12 million.

Britney Spears ranked 14th on the list, earning $8 million from music royalties and sales of her fragrances with Elizabeth Arden.

Spears is followed by Carrie Underwood and Nelly Furtado ($7 million each); Fergie, Jennifer Lopez and Sheryl Crow ($6 million each); and Norah Jones ($5.5 million).

......and why would most people care? Most people worry about providing food and shelter for the family....not just for now...but the future...not about who is the richest ex-singer.

Madonna has nothing at all to do with music. She is an entertainer.

I've always thought Madonna was Number Two.

In every respect.

And for those who think music should have something to do with who the best female singer is, there is Elizabeth Futral.

No wonder this country is in the state it is. All the venom flowing here could light up New York City! Entertainers are people to! Since when don't they have a right to their political opinion. I would hardly say that Barbra Streisand has ruined her legacy. A few petty people are hoping she has ruined it. All the right wing nut cases hate her for speaking her mind. No one has a right to an opinion but them. But, as far as I am concerned she is tops for speaking her mind. It's hard to find a better singer than she is! Her voice hasn't diminished in the slightest with age.

Such a shame that America only gives a damn about fame and fortune. No wonder we're hated the world over, we're so superficial, we can't even see 2 feet in front of us.

Instead of a stupid, lame list of richest women in music.....

How about a list of the most talented women in music instead?? That too much to ask?? Course, that would be impossible, as only 2 or 3 of the above acts would even make the talent list.

Hell, I could take a handful off pennies and a sneaker, toss into a clothes dryer, and talk shit, and have a top-10 single.

Hmm. A few years ago Madonna and I were the same age and now she is 49. ( But I still like her music.) Glad to see the Dixie Chicks on there. The Not Ready To Make Nice video is one of the most compelling I've seen.

You can't judge music by the number of zeroes sitting in a survivor's bank account. That only shows who made the most money, not the biggest impact on society.

And the discussion of which band or musician made the biggest impact on the world is what makes the late night drinking and arguing all the more fun.
