A leading human rights group said Thursday that the United States has lost its moral authority by supporting autocratic governments in strategic countries despite their continuing violations of civil liberties.

Human Rights Watch, a New York-based advocacy group, has used its past 17 annual surveys to highlight the most egregious humanitarian crises in the world and to note improvements when warranted. The latest report marks a break with that tradition by focusing on democracy and the ways in which U.S. influence have affected other countries' pursuit of it.

Human rights is what the U.S. preaches but has never practiced. Andrew Jackson killed off many Indians and placed the survivors on reservations after the march of tears. James Polk took 40% of the territory of Mexico despite opposition from Abraham Lincoln and John Quincy Adams. Theodore Roosevelt started the Spanish-American war and ended up invading the Philippines where many died. Then the Marines took Hawaii. Woodrow Wilson lost 600,000 in WW I. Did I forget the 600,000 that died in the Civil War? WW II - a "good war" Then Korea and then Vietnam where 60,000 US troops died and 1.5 million Vietnamese. Meanwhile Iran 1953, Guatemala, Haiti, Chile, Peru, Hmm...starting to sound a little war-like to me. At least we bought Manhattan Island for $24, Alaska for 17 million and the Louisiana Purchase for 25 million.

Not to defend BushCo but torture and wars of conquest have been around for a while.

Stop the presses, we have a legacy!

On a related note, what kind of monument are we going to build for our Bizzaro President? Humble suggestions:

A hole in the ground as deep as the Washington Monument is tall. Simple, evocative, like the Vietnam Memorial. I guess a sturdy fence should be included to keep the kiddies from falling in.
On the other hand, lots of children have dropped into the political and social hole that Bush created, so maybe .... nah, we're a caring nation. Am I right people?!

Something neoclassical? How 'bout a bronze statue of George III doing a track stand on a mountain bike. Cast him nude of course, with really tiny genitalia. It'd be the talk of the town!

My final suggestion is a larger than life marble representation of a paper shredder, erected in some obscure and secret location that ordinary mortals would never suspect. Let everybody look for years. Unresolved problem I think we'd have to kill the architects and builders to keep the secret...or keep them really drunk.

support autocrat! Bush or rather his psycho-puppeteer Cheney are the most evil most powerful autocrats on the planet. Even if he is criminally retarded Bush has done everything he wanted to with signing statements. Can anybody tell why we even have a Congress anymore are they kind of like the royal family in Great Britain just an irrelevant and expensive tradition that reminds us of our distant greatness?

It would be best for the financial future of the US if Bush does move to his 16,000 acre ranch in Paraguay. Can you imagine the cost to tax payers just in security alone if he stays in the US.

This is hardly news to most of us! A rotten apple leading the barrel of apple's has started to rot the whole barrel from within.
The corruption in this country has reached epidemic proportions under this President.

There is one glaring difference between Georgie and Mushariff, one is highly intelligent and it is not Georgie. Mushariff speaks English (his second language) much better than our Dumbya. He uses big words that he understands!! He is a smart man, after all he has taken millions of taxpayer dollare from us for WHAT? It would be interesting to hear what he really thinks of Georgie, honestly.

Since HR rhetoric ONLY carries weight here in the U.S. and very few other influencial countries pay attention to them, no surprise, American Bashing is their first ROE.

The HRW groups hardly have a face themselves,
They created these tales of Mukhtiar Mai etc.. Its no use with a Internationbal Powerhouse whose left France and England broke in India and made peace there too, Pres., Bush should wipe clean the 'certain human detractions ' by letting Musharaff a freer hand vand the Bu77 Cinjection for a looser tongue .. Only i will be perhaps the loser because he is a boomed bureacratic Pakistani Military General who dont have more than one officer answerable unless they put the full corp to a fatique..

so many agencies etc are naked in Pakistan, and nausauferrari hotels exposed.............he knows terms like entire US Embassy which means wqestern world that can be said the whole diplomatic community getting covered/overshadowed/blocked/faked by two in Pakistan.....One Cleaning service and another folk entertainers ...................its gettin to dark too dark to see...
