Ann Coulter: I'll Campaign For Hillary If McCain Is The Nominee

Last night on "Hannity & Colmes," Ann Coulter made a striking announcement: she'll campaign for Hillary Clinton if John McCain is the Republican nominee. Earlier this week, the New York Observer's Jennifer Rubin reported that members of the conservative punditry were "beside themselves" over the thought of a McCain nomination, but Coulter's pronouncement is a new, and surprising, development. You can call Ann Coulter a lot of things, but stupid is not one of them. Of course she knows that she can't have any influence over the Dem primary, because no one who takes her seriously would ever vote in a Dem primary or consider voting for any Dem ever. The posters who are arguing over whether this benefits Obama or Hillary are all on a collective fool's errand. This is not an endorsement of Hillary it is a slam of McCain.

It is interesting though, that while the Republican talking point we have all heard is that the Republicans would rather face Hillary in a general election because she will energize their base, Coulter is saying is that if the Republican nomination goes to McCain, then conservatives may as well vote for Hillary. This is hardly going to energize the base is it? Coulter may have stumbled on to something here. The right wing of the Republican party is not going to be very inspired to vote against Hillary if that means voting for someone who they see as no different from Hillary.

By the way Coulter made a similar comment in 2004. She said that if Kerry promised to support racial profiling for airport security, she would campaign for him. It is a literary device called hyperbole. Some of you posters thinking this is really an endorsement of Hillary should look this term up.

Coulter might like Hillary, but Obama likes Reagan. Read why Obama said people voted for Reagan.

"I think they felt like with all the excesses of the 1960s and 1970s and government had grown and grown but there wasn't much sense of accountability in terms of how it was operating. I think people, he just tapped into what people were already feeling, which was we want clarity we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing."

The excesses and growth of the government were what the Democrats did. It was Medicare, The Great Society, Gay Rights,Civil Rights, Progressive taxation, Government Regulation of Corporations and Environmental Laws. Calling them excesses is Republican language. Most Democrats didn't think they went far enough. And the Optimism was against the honest soul searching that Americans had after Vietnam and Watergate of our place in the world. And lets not forget that Reagan's rose colored glasses made those suffering from aids invisible.

While Hillary gets the endorsement of Ann Coulter over John McCain (the likely Republican nominee), the backup Kennedy's and Maxine Waters.
